1. “A curriculum is the public face of a profession's best educational thinking.”
Explain in two paragraphs.
The primary goal of a curriculum is to help students learn. All student outcomes in
a certain institution come from a strong foundational plan. This foundational plan is
beneficial to administrators, teachers, parents, and most importantly to the learners.
Nyagah (n.d.) stated that the term, curriculum originated from the Greek word “curere”
meaning to run a course. It represents a course of subjects covered by learners in their
studies towards a certain educational goal or target. It covers various area in education
such as standard requirements, assessment requirements, teaching philosophies and
also resources. All of these requirements of a curriculum are a product of different
processes. A curriculum is the public face of a profession’s best education thinking
because it shows the careful analysis of educators when they choose the content of the
subjects and courses to be taught. Also, it includes deep thinking behind the standards
and list of subjects. Teachers, who are considered as curriculum experts spend time in
coming up with decisions in serving the needs of the society.
The elements of a curriculum such as aims, goals, and objectives, subject
content/learning experiences, methods/strategies of delivery/learning activities, and
organization of learning experiences are communicated to all the professionals involved
in the crafting and review of the curriculum. It is open for review, reform, and
reorganization. Thus, curriculum is the blueprint of the educational experiences of the
students. It sums up the educational system that is known to the community. All the
professional dialogues of a curriculum target the desired instruction for the students. For
example, our current curriculum now which is the K-12 curriculum is a product of great
researches in the field of education. Experts converse from time to time to produce the
reforms which must be applied. The spiral progression nature of the curriculum became
possible because of the well-planned collaboration of the educators for the basic
education. Indeed, curriculum is continuous reconstruction of the learners’ range of
experiences in the different levels of their lives as clienteles of quality education.
