5. Purpose of Project
• Understand current patient pathway and develop
approximate computer simulation
• Evaluate how emergency admissions to hospitals can
be reduced
• Help Improve the patient journey through new
integrated interventions
6. Purpose of Workshop

system from a user perspective
7. How?

16. Group discussion 1
• Think about
– Your opinion of service
– Understanding of pathway
– Does it make sense?
– Are changes needed?
17. Group discussion 2
Questions
• Do you think that it is reducing
admissions?
• Does it really provide more appropriate
treatment than admission?
• Are the resources being used effectively?
Ask participants to fill in the cards with “What I hope to get out this workshop” before revealing what is behind the curtain
Emphasise that the model is an approximation and part of the analytic process, the system is being analysed this way.
Reports to LCC and major report at end of project. Will be widely disseminated
Will help decide how the intervention progresses
What is going to happen during the workshop
We are talking about the patient pathway!
What is the Older Person’s Unit? What is the NN service?
Ed will tell you about the simulation and how it was derived, run the model
Put yourself into the patient’s position, think about the progress through the journey
Look at what the problems are or may be
Work out solutions; decide on how could it be improved?
How can patient satisfaction be measured?
