What is Food Adulteration
???
It's an act of intentionally corrupting
the quality of food offered for sale
either by the admixture lower
substitute or by removal of some
valuable ingredients.
“ Adulteration is a legal term meaning that a
food product fails to meet federal or state
standards. These substances are may be other
available food items or non-food items.”

Most Adulterated Food
Honey is not safe for children under the age 1 because of
the risk of infant botulism. The infant botulism is an
illness that can happen when a baby ingests bacteria that
produce a toxin inside the body. The condition can be
frightening because it can cause muscle weakness and
breathing problems.

The most common form of adulteration comes from mixing
extra virgin olive oil with cheaper, lower-grade oils. In some
cases, lampante, or "lamp oil," which is made from spoiled
olives fallen from trees, is used, even though it can't legally
be sold as food.

Saffron is POSSIBLY SAFE for most
people when taken by mouth as a
medicine for up to 6 weeks. Some
possible side effects include dry
mouth, anxiety, dizziness,
drowsiness, nausea, change in
appetite, and headache. Allergic
reactions can occur in some people.

The most common form of Coffee adulteration is
through the use of powdered tamarind seeds. Pure
coffee will always float on the water, if there are
powdered tamarind seeds, they will sink to the
bottom.

sweet chemical called
diethyleneglycol has been
added to wine. Diethylene
glycol is a colorless soluble
liquid used as a solvent
and antifreeze.

known that the bulk
of flour used in this
country is not the
natural product of

appearance.

of being tainted with starch, papaya seeds, flour, buckwheat, and
millet—and that's nothing to sneeze at.

 Lack of effective coordination
 Lack of proper food laws

 Politicians are not raising their voice

Some Adulterated Food Products

Their Adverse Effects
Ѳ Turmeric,Pulses such as moong or chhola.
It is highly carcinogenic to consume for a
long period of time which can causes
stomach disorders.
Ѳ Green chillies, green peas and other
vegetables. Argemone seeds (used to add
bulk and weight) that it is a coloured dye,
has proven to be carcinogenic for humans for
consuming over a long time.
Ѳ Black Pepper. Papaya seeds don’t have any
smell. Adulteration of papaya seed with black
pepper may be dedicated by way of visual
examination as also by way of smelling.
Ѳ Coriander powder.. Coriander powder is
adulterated with saw-dust.

1. Maize - Sand, Cobs and Cob dust
2. Bajra,jowar - Sand
3. Deoiled Rice Bran - Sand, Husk, Fibre, Saw-dust
4. Rice Polish - Rice bran Husk, Saw-dust
5. Soy bean meal - Hulls, Sand and silica, Urea
6. Dry fish/ fish meal - Sand, Urea, Salt
7. Meat and Bone Meal - Sand, Leather meal
Preventing Food Adulteration
1. Nutritional information becomes
mandatory.
2. Food inspectors will have to take action
against traders.
3. Replenishing the stock will be a tough
task.
4. Rules have been amended in the
interest if the consumer.

  • 23. Preventing Food Adulteration 1. Nutritional information becomes mandatory. 2. Food inspectors will have to take action against traders. 3. Replenishing the stock will be a tough task. 4. Rules have been amended in the interest if the consumer.
