Radio Operator Job Description
• Half an hours before beggining of the 12 hours shift meeting with captain, OIM,
toolpusher, supervisors and safety about the operations on going and to be done;
• Passage of shift;
• Checking equipment (VHF, MF / HF radio telex, Inmarsat C and aeronautical
VHF);
• Check the emails, to-dos and continuity of operations in progress;
• Internal communication by public announcements (PAs);
• Receive and distribute the mail bag;
• Prepare transmittals (protocols) of the material to be sent to the base;
• Prepare paper work for the Brazilian teams to send by mail bag to the HR
department and rig manager (timesheet, overtime, shift function, compensated
time off, vacation requests, expense report among others);
• Send to airport control tower the weather and sea conditions for operation with
aircraft;
• Prepare the MTA (Manifest of Air Transport) with the names of the passengers
disembarking, their weight and number of luggage and weight to the helicopter
pilot;
• Check the weather and sea conditions to the pilot when the aircraft close to
landing;
• Distribute the cabins, keeping the POB (people on board) updated;
• Inform our geographic location (lat / long) to maritime support;
• Inform vessels with scheduled operations with the unit our heading and the
operation board;
• Inform the control room, the captain, toolpusher, deck pusher and the Petrobras
fiscal the arrival of vessels;
• Insert the ADPs at the GIAR program on Petrobras system;
• Prepare reports to send to the rig departments and to the offices at the base (POB,
vessel list of arrivals and departures, list of flights of the day);
• Report on the log book (GMDSS communication book) all radio communication;
• Organize the radio room’s file;
• Test the radios (daily, weekly and monthly);
• Assist in simultaneous translation between Brazilian and foreign supervisors;
• Participate in emergency drills every week:
- Check the distance of the support boats and IBAMA oil recovery, informing
them of the drill and requesting them to stay closer to the rig in case of a real
emergency during the drill.
- To announce (Sécurité) on VHF (channel 16) and MF / HF (channel 4125.0)
- Do internal announcement on the PA system,
- Inform the rig manager or the manager on duty at the base in Macaé by
phone, call the emergency room at the base of the company, call by "Hot
Line" Petrobras’ phone and stay awaiting Captain’s request or command
during the drill,
- At the end of emergency drill, repeat the last three actions.
