3. STRUCTURE OF THE ATMOSPHERE
1. Troposphere
2. Stratosphere
3. Mesosphere
4. Thermosphere
4. TROPOSPHERE
It extend to a height of about 16km.
It contains almost water vapour and dust particles.
Most weather phenomena takes place in this layer.
5. STRATOSPHERE
It extend to a height of about 50km above the earth`s
surface.
It contains the ozone layer that absorbs solar ultraviolet
radiation.
It is very dry with little water vapour.
It is suitable for flying air crafts (passengers jet).
6. MESOSPHERE
It extends at a height of about 90km above the earth`s
surface.
There are no clouds found in this layer.
Meteors burn up in this layer while entering the earth`s
atmosphere.
It is the coldest layer
It can be reached by sounding rockets.
7. THERMOSPHERE
It is uniform from about 100km.
Radio waves are transmitted from the earth are reflected by
this layer.
Aurora and satellites occur in this layer.
