In 2014 a new governor was appointed over the province
of Haut-Rhin. He pledged the closure of the Yeshiva, the
only religious Jewish Institution in “his” territory, calling
it a “cult”! In 2015 he pounced on the Yeshiva, closing the
dormitory wing, and forcing it to make useless changes
to the building according to new regulations. No other
institutions in the area were obliged to make changes to
fit the new regulations. The Yeshiva was forced to invest
closeto500000€inunnecessaryrenovationsandchanges.
Upon completion of the work the local Mayor, expressed
his views: “You do not have the money to complete the
changes we will demand next. I suggest you accept the
message, give up now and close your institution!”
