22. Relationships
“ It’s nice to know that a lot of my classmates are going to college. I ’m also
proud that I am going to college because now I'm going to do better for
myself.”- Brittany Bingham, Romulus High School Senior
“In an area that has only 18.2% of our residents holding four year degrees,
I can't tell you how excited Reeths-Puffer is about this opportunity. Having
a college adviser serve our students could truly be a game-changer for us!”
- Principal Steve Edwards, Reeths-Puffer High School
“The college adviser that we have placed at Comstock High School has
done an extraordinary job and really fulfilled our vision of what a college
adviser should do to help our low income, first generation college going
students.”
- Brenda Pickett, Local College Access Network Coordinator
(Kalamazoo)
23. Our Impact So Far…
1. Increased and strengthened our partnerships allowing
us to serve 16,509 students in 22 schools to 20,635
students in 36 schools making meaningful contact with
95% of all seniors
2. Our assessment metrics are gaining toward Goal 2025
and have exceeded the national benchmarks in all key
categories for the last two years
3. Championed adviser innovation to maximize high
school peer influence and leadership while increasing
overall impact
4. Achieved a 100% post corps placement rate for all
alumni who successfully complete at least 1 year with
the Corps
24. Toward a Bolder Future a
National Perspective

Jenny
Secured state AmeriCorps status through collaborative grant with MCAN and U of M which funds 27 MSU adviser educational awards worth $152,415
Revised our institutional funding request to a base contribution of $127,500 from MSU
New funding model removes the percentage requirement of each partner which supports great scalability of the program based on the availability of funding from any source
Supports the need and potential to grow both in Michigan and nationally

Build on MSU’s reputation and commitment as a land grant institution by collaborating closely with high schools and high school counselors.
College attainment is essential to re-building Michigan’s economy, Michigan State University can be a leader in facilitating college attainment.
Our work serves to close the gap between first generation college students, under-represented students and students from impoverished backgrounds.
