2. Defination
An electric dipole, or simply a dipole, is
the name given to two point charges of
equal magnitude and opposite sign,
separated by a distance that is small
compared to the distance to the point P at
which we want to know the electric and
potential fields.
Electric dipole term use for DIELECTRIC
METRIALS when it is placed in FIELD
3. Concepts
Electric dipole have electric field and potential field which we find
mathematically…..
POTENTIAL FIELD is easier to find first than ELECTRIC
FIELD…..
An electric field surrounds an electric charge, and exerts force on
other charges in the field, attracting or repelling them. Electric field
is sometimes abbreviated as E-field.
6. First figure (a) show the actual arrangment of
vectors…..
In figure (b) it show if the distance is very small
then both point have same distance….so we call
parallel distance…..
So we can write for parallel
R2 − R1 =˙ d cos θ
12. Important Informatio
The dipole moment and potential field remain same
for every changing in Q and d…because it remain same
and CONSTANT.
potential field is now proportional to the inverse
square of the distance, and the electric field intensity
is proportional to the inverse cube of the distance
from the dipole
