Dear mauro luisetto
Thank you for your inquiry to Joint Commission International.
Question: i ask if for accreditation of an pubblic hospital is required the
presence of ward clinical pharmacist or ward pharmacy service.and the
standard involved in this field : to reduce therapy error, improve clinical
outcome, rationalize cost with the presence of ward clinical pharmacist.
Related Standard:
Related Standard/ME: .
Answer:
The reference for this clarification is The Joint Commission International
Standards for Hospitals, 5th
Edition.
The standards do not dictate how pharmacy services are organized and staffed.
The question is a very good and the value of such a person is not questioned
by the standards. Many organizations use such a person and the number of
organizations doing so appears to be increasing as it does add safety to
medication systems. However, the standards do not specifically require one.
I hope my response clearly answered your question(s). Please let me know
if you need additional clarification.
