The circulatory system, also known as the cardiovascular system, is comprised of the heart, blood vessels, and blood. The heart pumps blood throughout the body using arteries and returns blood to the heart using veins. Blood is carried through the smallest blood vessels, called capillaries, that connect arteries and veins and allow for the exchange of oxygen, nutrients, and waste. The circulatory system works with other body systems to deliver these materials to cells throughout the body.

6. 4 CHAMBERS OF HEART
• The two atria are the receiving chambers of the heart,
accepting from the body and from the lungs.
• The two ventricles are the pumping chambers, moving
blood to the lungs and into the body.
• There is a valve between each atrium and ventricle to
prevent the blood from flowing backwards. These are one
way doors – keep the blood from moving only in one
direction.
