suffering.

4. 1.Voluntary Euthanasia
• Performed because the patient has asked for it.
eg: a cancer patient has asks for a drug to quicken their
death.

5. 2.Involuntary Euthanasia
•Performed without the dying person being told.
eg: a coma patient.

6. 3.Passive Euthanasia
• Doctors give a painkilling drug but do nothing to save
the patient.
eg: witching off a machine that is keeping a person
alive, so that they die of their disease.

7. 4.Active Euthanasia
• Doctors give the patient pain killing drug knowing that
the drug will also kill the person.

9. •It is believed that euthanasia started in an ancient
Greece and Rome around the fifth century B.C.
•Hippocratic Oath:
“I will give no deadly medicine to any one asked,nor
suggest any such counsel”.

11. • In Europe, Euthanasia is only legal in Netherlands and
Belgium , provided certain conditions are met.
• For example it is only allowed if the patient is an adult.
• In Netherlands euthanasia is allowed for children aged
between 12 and 16 years of age.
• In Japan only Passive euthanasia is permitted for patients
who have been in coma for more than 3 months.
• While in Egypt or Islamic countries equating euthanasia
with murder but allowing the with-holding treatment that is deemed
useless
