3. Weather Forecast Industry :
• Weather forecasting is the application of science and
technology to predict the state of the atmosphere for a given
location.
• Weather forecasts are made by collecting
quantitative data about the current state of the atmosphere
at a given place.
• By using scientific understanding of atmospheric
processes to project how the atmosphere will change.
5. In the development of weather forecast industry ,
there are many technologies have been involved and
some of the technologies are making significant
impact on the industry :
Drones
Artificial Intelligence
6. Drones are more formally known as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV).
UAVs have most often been associated with the military but they are also used
for search and rescue, traffic monitoring, weather monitoring.
The aircraft may be remotely controlled or can fly autonomously through
software-controlled flight plans in their embedded systems working in
conjunction with GPS.
7. • Drones are used to fly into hurricanes and tornadoes.
• Drones could circle overhead at beaches to get a birds' eye view of rip
currents.
• Drones could be dispatched into a thunderstorm to detect where and when
lightning might strike.
• Forecasters would be able to get routine weather observations at different
locations and elevations any time of day or night.
8. Artificial intelligence (AI) is the intelligence exhibited by machines or
software.
Artificial intelligence is the branch of computer science concerned with
making computers behave like humans.
The theory and development of computer systems able to perform tasks
normally requiring human intelligence , such as speech recognition, decision
making and translation between languages.
9. Neural networks are used for predicting weather conditions
Previous data is fed to a neural network which learns the pattern and uses
that knowledge to predict weather patterns.
• Artificial Neural Network ( ANN) :
Network is trained with actual data of the past 5years and tested which comes
from meteorological department.
For weather forecasting the data of temperature, wind speed and relative
humidity were used to train and test.
10. Sky News is leading multi-platform 24-hour news supplier.
Sky News is available in more than 2.5 million homes and locations across
Australia and New Zealand.
Sky News Active offers 8 screens of video content ranging from the latest
news headlines to business and finance plus sport, weather and showbiz.
11. • Drones
Accuracy : Skynews is using drone technology to forecast weather accurately.
Quick Access to information : Collecting and accessing the information became
faster for organization by using drones.
Competitive Edge : Organization have a competitive edge over the other news
channels while informing viewers with more accurate information.
Cost Effective : Drones reduced the cost incurred by the organization as organization
do not have to pay government for satellite access.
12. Early Warning System : The Early Warning System (EWS) used by Skynews
Channel for weather monitoring early warning of severe weather, including
high winds, floods and drought conditions.
Information is delivered via desktop computers, internet and mobile.
The EWS utilizes a cost-effective technology ensuring timely and accurate
delivery of warnings and forecast information.
13. • Drones :
PO Box Drones – Your post office box, once it’s been filled, will lift off and
deliver the mail directly to you.
News Reporting – Drones will be used to cover road accidents
and live news in near future.
• Artificial Intelligence :
In the next 10 years technologies in narrow fields
such as speech recognition will continue to improve
and will reach human levels.
14. • Drones as observers in the sky will remain important for the indefnite future.
They will grow easier to operate.
• The ease of flying and taking pictures can mask the fact that questions
concerning how to use those pictures will not get any easier with higher
sensor resolutions, better lenses, or cheaper memory.
• The Ultimate goal of scientists working on AI is to solve majority of problems
or to achieve tasks which human cannot accomplish.
