3. Pollution is my topic for my final: Here is a portion of a
discussion question that was posted in relation to it.
Pollution is a serious environmental issue that has been
affecting our environment for many years. Pollution occurs
when a chemical substance or form of energy is distributed into
the environment at a rate faster than it can be dispersed or
safely stored (Environmental health Pollution Encyclopedia
Britannica, 2013). It can occur naturally or artificially and
environmentally affect air, water and land. There are many
types of pollutants that affect our environment such as
excessive plastics that are not biodegradable and radioactive
material. In conclusion, pollution can be reduced if we recycle
properly and treat our environment with the proper chemical
treatments in order to reduce pollutants and excessive waste.
We can also change this reducing the use of fossil fuels and
carbon emissions. When choosing this topic I decided to write
about something that I have familiarized myself with.
Pollution is a topic that I have written about before and I feel
very strongly about. Having knowledge of this topic will help
me write my final paper and help me critically analyze for
further research. Three ways you can critically analyze sources
to determine if they are scholarly is by identifying where the
article is located. In other words where is the article retrieved
from, such as a university library or Google scholar etc. Next
we would need to identify the authors and their credentials and
if the author does not attempt to persuade or bias the reader.
Lastly we would need to examine the content. Is the author
using credible resources and relevant information that lead to a
conclusion of the topic? Scholarly sources should be used
because it creates reliable and factual information when
conducting research. Scholarly sources also provide credibility
and improve the quality the research project.
