2. KEY POINTS
My belief that the profession of nursing is all about people.
My personal nursing philosophy involving the four metaparadigm in my own
point of view.
3. Nursing is all about caring people.
Nursing as a profession is all about caring people through specific education in order to deliver
quality health care and safe delivery of health care services to patients. As a nurse, I believed that
in order to achieve wellness of the patients, you need to have compassion, honesty, respect and a
God-fearing human being. There are variety of roles that a nurse are applying to patients so that
he or she can provide quality health care to them.
Firstly, your role as a patient supporter and educator means you are responsible in ensuring
that the patient understand their health, illnesses, their medications, and treatments to the best of
their ability. You need to take some time to explain to the patient as well as to their family what is
the status of the patient’s health, their medications and the recommendations of the attending
physician.
4. Secondly, nurses are responsible in maintaining supply of continuous care of the patient from
medication, food, and physiologic needs like being comfortable on their environments such as well
ventilated room that they are in, making sure that the food that they are eating is the correct diet
that the doctor is recommending and etc.
Thirdly, a nurse supervisor is responsible in managing staff, overseeing patient care and
ensuring adherence to established policies and procedures. As a nurse supervisor, she is acting as an
interface between her staffs, patients, and the patient’s families, as well as between her staff and
the hospital’s physicians.
5. Lastly, being a leader, I believe that you must be an advocate to your patients as well as to
your co-nurses. As a leader, you must ensure that there is a quality of patient care that are
practiced to your staff nurses for the patients.
6. My Nursing Philosophy
My nursing philosophy is based on the knowledge that I acquire upon my education, trainings
and practices. As a nurse, I believe that you must ask wisdom from God in order for you to be
guided in your nursing actions in delivering your care to your patients. I also believe that,
compassion, honesty, a God fearing human being and respect are essential in dealing with
different kind of patients throughout my nursing journey.
As a nurse, since the world is constantly changing and different technologies and approaches
are arising, it is my duty to gain more knowledge and training so that I can be updated and
provide new essential ideas in the delivery of my practice.
I also believe that you need to be more understanding. It is also my duty to gain trust from my
patients, provide adequate education in relation to his illness and its management, to provide
comfort, and provide support.
I also believe that you need to respect patients whatever their circumstances are and also
patients should also respect nurses as they are their primary health provider.
As nurse you need to be honest in your nursing actions especially upon your delivery of care to
your patients.it is also my duty to be kind to them and be more compassionate to them.
7. My Nursing Philosophy
I believe on this verse that I am holding on every time I am about to work:
1 Peter 5:7 that says, “ Cast all your anxiety on Him, He cares for you.” On this verse, I am always
reminded that every time I have loads of problems and struggles, I just need to hold unto Him and
tell Him everything that creates fear and doubts in my heart. By this way I can go to work without
the baggage that I am carrying. Through this, I can create a happy environment for my colleagues
and to my patients as well.
8. PERSON/ HUMAN BEING
I believe that a person is the recipient of care that includes individuals,
family, and community.
Providing care to the person is centered and individualized.
Most of the patients that I provided care are those patients coming to the
clinic. I provided care to them through entering their laboratory requests,
assessing them through their vital signs, and explaining to them some
procedures and instructing them regarding their follow ups.
9. ENVIRONMENT
An environment for me is the place where the nurse-patient interaction occurs. This
is where the nurse is conducting assessment to the patient upon his/her seeking of
health services, giving health education, and providing care to the patient.
Environment includes the place where a person is, those people that surrounds
him/her such us family, friends, and community. It also involves the comfortability of
a patient like ventilation and temperature.
I believe that environment where a person or patient is in affects the health and well-
being of every person. For example, if a patient is suffering from insomnia, he/she
should be put on a well ventilated and airconditioned room to promote sleep and
rest.
Examples of environment are hospital-patient rooms, clinics, and home.
10. HEALTH
In my own point of view, health is a state of well-being of a person physically,
emotionally, psychologically and spiritually.
Health is characterized by individualized genuinely happy, creative, and being
productive.
For example, if a person is unproductive and is uncomfortable because of
pain, that person’s health was affected by it.
11. NURSING
For me, nursing is an act of providing care to the patients regardless of its
ethnicity and gender through the use of the knowledge acquired during
education, training and practices.
Nursing encompasses autonomous and collaborative care of individuals of all
ages , families, groups and communities. ( International Council of Nurses:
Nursing Definitions)
13. CONCLUSION
My philosophy in nursing involves in how I care my patients. It is with my belief
that to become a nurse is a fulfilling job especially if your patient has achieved the
goal of wellness.
I believe that each nursing metaparadigm concepts are interrelated with each
other as our goal is to provide effective and quality care to all our patients.
As a nurse, your responsibility to your patient as a person is to give and provide
the maximum care needed. You as one of the healthcare provider should create an
environment that is conducive to wellness such making your patient comfortable to be
able to reach him/her to maximum state of well-being.
