What is WDM-PON?
Wavelength division multiplexing-passive optical network (WDM-PON) is an access network
technology that has the potential to significantly alter carrier infrastructures. In addition,
WDM-PON uses WDM multiplexing/demultiplexing technology to ensure that data signals can be
divided into individual outgoing signals that are connected to buildings or homes.

Architecture of WDM-PON
WDM-PON creates a wavelength-based logical point-to-point (P2P) architecture upon a physical
point-to-multipoint (P2MP) fiber network topology. P2P architecture consists of an optical line
terminal (OLT), optical distribution network (ODN), and optical network unit (ONU). The OLT and
ONU should be able to emit and receive light of different wavelengths. Wavelength selection is
achieved by arrayed waveguide-grating (AWG) filtering at the user.

WDM-PON provides high reliability, high bandwidth, high security, high channel isolation, low
latency, low insertion loss, low polarization-dependent loss, low cost, low fiber counts,
plug-and-play ONU, simple operation and maintenance (O&M), and easy deployment.

WDM-PON is used in the PON system, CATV System, FTTH, FTTB, FTTC, FTTO, FTTA, 5G
front-haul/back-haul, etc.

Abstract WiMAX is a highly sophisticated technology in the broadband wireless access communication system. Scalable Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) is a key technology behind mobile WiMAX and it is also expected to play a key role in 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) standards. Designers and OEMs have to concentrate on flexibility, scalability and stability of the overall Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) system along with its proper data processing and channeling process to achieve high performance and competitiveness. In this paper, the performance of a strictly band limited OFDM signal is examined using deliberate clipping method, one of the simplest signal distortion based way to reduce high Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) and its effect on the resultant Bit Error Rate (BER) against Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) performance. A simulation program using MATLAB software was developed to investigate performance of OFDM signal by optimization of different parameters such values of FFT size, Cyclic Prefix co-efficient (CPC) and The Voltage Clipping Ratio (VCR). The simulation results show that with the increment of VCR at optimized parameter values of FFT size and CP, the performance of BER vs SNR improves compared to the results found without clipping. 5G (the fifth generation mobile communications) is scheduled to launch in around early 2020s. Even if it is not determined yet regarding the standard technology details, many researchers expect that 5G will transfer 1000 times more data, and thus, can connect billions of IoT (Internet of Things) devices at the same time. In fibre optic communications Wavelength Division Multiplexing or WDM is a technology which multiplexes a number of optical carrier signals onto a single optical fibre by using different wavelengths of laser light. This technique enables us to get high bit rate and efficient use of fibre bandwidth. WDM allows communication in both the directions in the fiber cable. In WDM, the optical signals from different sources or (transponders) are combined by a multiplexer, which is essentially an optical combiner. They are combined so that their wavelengths are different. The combined signal is transmitted via a single optical fiber strand. At the receiving end, a demultiplexer splits the incoming beam into its components and each of the beams is send to the corresponding receivers.
