helping people through motion (Nike, 2020).

that you selected?
The connection to the target audience is in the company’s
love for the outdoors and the activities that require sports
gear.

supported locally or nationally?
Great American Cross-Country Festival (National, 2020)

impact the target audience’s
view of the company
negatively?
The company is in the news revolving around its new push
in sustainability for its sneakers and its recent support of
current activismmatters. This behavior puts it in line with
the target audience’s expectations of how companies
should respond to the current state of the world (Nike,
Converse, 2020).

While the answer was no for the question above, another
company that stands out is the U.S. Bank, a company that
proudly proclaims sponsoring events such as this one
(Corporate, 2019).

They are a local beverage dispenser, so all their distribution
is local only.

Their in-house Bridge City soda with real cane sugar
(Bridge, 2020).

They are a local distributer with a vested interest in
growing their local Portland area.
What is the connection to the
target audience of the festival
that you selected?
The connection is in the fact that it is a home-grown local
business that most liberals in that age range enjoy
supporting due to its locality.

supported locally or nationally?
They have not yet sponsored anything of note but seem
eager to gain opportunities to help their local communities
and work with them.
Are they currently in the news
(local or national)? If so, what
did you find? Would that news
impact the target audience’s
view of the company
negatively?
I could not find any news regarding them, probably due to
their small size.

competitors that you would
explore to reach out to? (A
listing is appropriate)
Another company that I found that can suit this, but is less
locally driven, is EartH2O. They have been in news that
more positively aligned with the target market, but the
reason they weren’t chosen is because going more local
will be more valuable, and Portland Beverage offers a
wider variety of beverage choices (Earth2o, 2015).

They make it their business to cover all local events and
enjoy being involved in the growth of the greater Portland
area, making them a great choice for a local event such as
this.

They are the main local published news and since the event
is trying to bring in members of the local community, this is
a strong asset for spreading the news.

They recently supported the local Spartan Race Portland
2020 event (Spartan, 2020).

did you find? Would that news
impact the target audience’s
view of the company
negatively?
Being a news publisher, they are under the same scrutiny
most news publications are under at the moment with all
the movement politicly happening around the country, but
I believe that being that they lean towards the liberal side
of the spectrum, it should not be a problem with the
event’s target audience, as it is in line with the area’s
political views (Portland Tribune, 2020).

N/A But if we were to look for a radio station instead,
Northwestern Outdoor Radio Station would be in strong
consideration (Northwestern, 2020).

They are an outdoor apparel store, and as the event is
based on outdoor activities, it works well (Clymb, 2020).

well as the style that tends to be prevalent of the people
who prefer an outdoors lifestyle.

Name of the company and location: Nike Inc. Beaverton, Oregon What is the connection to the festival that you selected? Nike defines themselves as an athletics outdoor company that makes the gear needed for the event and believes in helping people through motion (Nike, 2020). What is the connection to the target audience of the festival that you selected? The connection to the target audience is in the company’s love for the outdoors and the activities that require sports gear. What other events have they supported locally or nationally? Great American Cross-Country Festival (National, 2020) Are they currently in the news (local or national)? If so, what did you find? Would that news impact the target audience’s view of the company negatively? The company is in the news revolving around its new push in sustainability for its sneakers and its recent support of current activismmatters. This behavior puts it in line with the target audience’s expectations of how companies should respond to the current state of the world (Nike, Converse, 2020). If the answer is yes to the answer above, what are the competitors that you would explore to reach out to? (A listing is appropriate) While the answer was no for the question above, another company that stands out is the U.S. Bank, a company that proudly proclaims sponsoring events such as this one (Corporate, 2019). Company #2: Non-AlcoholicBeverage Sponsor – Water, Sports Drink, Soft Drink, Flavored Water, etc. Name of the company and location: Portland Beverage Portland, Oregon Where do they distribute that beverage locally? They are a local beverage dispenser, so all their distribution is local only. Which specific beverage would be requested? Their in-house Bridge City soda with real cane sugar (Bridge, 2020). What is the connection to the festival that you selected? They are a local distributer with a vested interest in growing their local Portland area. What is the connection to the target audience of the festival that you selected? The connection is in the fact that it is a home-grown local business that most liberals in that age range enjoy supporting due to its locality.
  • 2. What other events have they supported locally or nationally? They have not yet sponsored anything of note but seem eager to gain opportunities to help their local communities and work with them. Are they currently in the news (local or national)? If so, what did you find? Would that news impact the target audience’s view of the company negatively? I could not find any news regarding them, probably due to their small size. If the answer is yes to the answer above, what are the competitors that you would explore to reach out to? (A listing is appropriate) Another company that I found that can suit this, but is less locally driven, is EartH2O. They have been in news that more positively aligned with the target market, but the reason they weren’t chosen is because going more local will be more valuable, and Portland Beverage offers a wider variety of beverage choices (Earth2o, 2015). Company #3: Media: A local publication orradio station Name of the publication or radio station? Portland Tribune If radio: What is the format of the station? (ie. adult contemporary, news talk) N/A If radio: Who is the listenership of the station? (Who listens to the station?) N/A If a publication: What is the main focus of the publication? (ie. daily news, the arts, local college paper) The main focus of the Portland Tribune is to publish articles and pieces on the daily news about local happenings and noteworthy events (Portland Tribune, 2020) If a publication: What is the frequency of the publication? (ie. daily, weekly, quarterly, semi-annually) The Portland tribune makes articles and posts daily, primarily through their website, though they do still print where there is demand. If a publication: Where is it distributed? Who is the readership? (Who reads the publication?) The publication is distributed online primarily, but also within the greater Portland area, such as Hillsboro, Beaverton, Sandy, Milwaukie, and Newberg. Their readership is made up of an older audience, with strong interests in local happenings (Portland Tribune, 2020).

They make it their business to cover all local events and enjoy being involved in the growth of the greater Portland area, making them a great choice for a local event such as this. What is the connection to the target audience of the festival that you selected? They are the main local published news and since the event is trying to bring in members of the local community, this is a strong asset for spreading the news. What other events have they supported locally? They recently supported the local Spartan Race Portland 2020 event (Spartan, 2020). Are they currently in the news (local or national)? If so, what did you find? Would that news impact the target audience’s view of the company negatively? Being a news publisher, they are under the same scrutiny most news publications are under at the moment with all the movement politicly happening around the country, but I believe that being that they lean towards the liberal side of the spectrum, it should not be a problem with the event’s target audience, as it is in line with the area’s political views (Portland Tribune, 2020). If the answer is yes to the answer above, what are the competitors that you would explore to reach out to? (A listing is appropriate) N/A But if we were to look for a radio station instead, Northwestern Outdoor Radio Station would be in strong consideration (Northwestern, 2020). Company #4: Monetary support from a small local business with no more than two locations in the area. Name of the company and location: The Clymb Portland, Oregon What is the connection to the festival that you selected? They are an outdoor apparel store, and as the event is based on outdoor activities, it works well (Clymb, 2020). What is the connection to the target audience of the festival that you selected? They sell the outdoor gear that the audience likes to use as well as the style that tends to be prevalent of the people who prefer an outdoors lifestyle. What other events have they supported locally? They have not sponsored anything of note. Are they currently in the news (local or national)? If so, what did you find? Would that news impact the target audience’s view of the company negatively? N/A If the answer is yes to the answer above, what are the competitors that you would N/A
