CIRCULAR ECONOMY
CIRCULAR ECONOMY AND SUSTAINABLE TOURISM
BRNO 19TH-23TH APRIL
DID YOU KNOW?
• WE ARE CURRENTLY CONSUMING 1,7 EARTH.
• IF NOTHING CHANGES WE WILL NEED 3 BY 2050
• IN 2018 YEARLY SUSTAINABLE RESOURCES WERE CONSUMED
BY 1ST OF AUGUST
• YOU NEED 3781 LITERS OF WATER TO PRODUCE A PAIR OF
LEVI STRAUSS 501®
The consumption of linear economy
leave a footprint on
Carbon: Leads to climate change
Water: Leads to shortage and drought
Natural resources:. Depletion,
shortage, price increase, impact on
nature etc.
WHAT WE LEAVE
BEHIND?
A. INCREASING IN WEATLH DESTROYING
THE PLANET WITHOUT
CONSIDERATIONS ON
ENVIRONMENTAL MATTERS
B. INCREASIUNG IN WEALTH CHANGING
IN RESOURCE CONSUMPTION AND
INCLUDING INTO ECONOMY
CONSIDERATIONS ON
ENVIRONMENTAL MATTERS
WHAT ARE THE
CHOICES?
LINEAR VS CIRCULAR ECONOMY?
LINEAR ECONOMY
Linear economy is based on linear process focused on high efficiency and low
production cost.
Linear economy is dependent on cheap and easily available natural resources
LINEAR ECONOMY STAGES
Circular economy focuses on low
environmental impact minimizing waste
and excessive resource use by turning
goods at the end of their lifespan into
new resources for other activities
CIRCULAR ECONOMY
CIRCULAR
ECONOMY
WHAT IS THE CIRCULAR
ECONOMY?
Maintaining the value of products,
materials and resources in the
economy for as long as possible
while minimizing waste generation
To boost our economy and
competitiveness with new business
opportunities and innovative
products and services.
To achieve economic, social and
environmental gains
CIRCULAR ECONOMY STAGES
1.REFUSE CONSUME MORE RAW
MATERIALS
2.REFORM INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTS
REDESIGNING TO MAKE THEM
MORE SUSTAINABLE
3.REDUCE THE PROCESS OF
PRODUCTION
4.TRANSPORT PRODUCTS IN A
MORE SUSTAINABLE WAY
5.REUSE ALL KIND OF PRODUCTS
6.MINIMIZING THE WASTE
COLLECTING AND RECYCLING IT
• Refuse
• Reduce
• Reuse
• Repurpose
• Recycle
MAIN PILLARS OF
CIRCULAR ECONOMY
INNOVATION AND CIRCULAR ECONOMY
Growth in demand should not lead
to degradation of living systems,
resource availability and cost.
The inspiration can be taken from the nature where waste from one
specie becomes another’s food and the energy is taken from the sun.
In circular economy valuable
materials and products are
produced cycled and transported in
a sustainable way.
The circular economy need a
different innovative approach to the
product and system design.
STRATEGIC ASPECTS OF CIRCULAR
ECONOMY
We know that Globalization of
Linear Economy affects both
economy and environment: Climate
is changing
The environmental rules should be
more strict and more governmental
restrictions should be implemented
The consumers mindset should
change quicker to eco friendly
ideas
Prices of raw materials are
increasing are becoming more
volatile and there is a lack of
resources
LEGISLATION & POLICY ON CIRCULAR
ECONOMY
UN: SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
GOALS
Transforming our World: the
2030 Agenda for Sustainable
Development, with its 17
SDGs, adopted at the United
Nations Sustainable
Development Summit in New
York in September 2015
EU: CIRCULAR ECONOMY ACTION
PLAN
The EU Commission have
been driving a Circular
Economy agenda,
culminating in an EU Action
Plan for the Circular
Economy (2015), putting it
at the core of future policy
making.
IN 2015, THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION ADOPTED ITS FIRST CIRCULAR ECONOMY ACTION PLAN. IT INCLUDED
MEASURES TO HELP STIMULATE EUROPE'S TRANSITION TOWARDS A CIRCULAR ECONOMY, BOOST GLOBAL
COMPETITIVENESS, FOSTER SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC GROWTH AND GENERATE NEW JOBS.
THE ACTION PLAN ESTABLISHED ACTIONS, WITH MEASURES COVERING THE WHOLE LIFE CYCLE: FROM
PRODUCTION AND CONSUMPTION TO WASTE MANAGEMENT AND THE MARKET FOR SECONDARY RAW
MATERIALS AND A REVISED LEGISLATIVE PROPOSAL ON WASTE.
