In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
Our filmopeningdevelopsthe conventionsusedinmanysupernaturalandpsychological horror
films.Thisisbecause ourprotagonistisa priest, whichone of manyconventionsinhorrormovies;
thisisthe case in ‘Annabelle’asone of the mainprotagonists isa priest,whofell victimtoAnnabelle
and waskilled.
Another convention our film opening follows is having a human female antagonist. This is
similar to many blockbuster horror films as well as independent films. ‘The Ring’ uses a
female protagonist, as does ‘The Grudge’, ‘Carrie’ and ‘Misery’.
One common convention of a horror is that the story will take place in a rural setting, such as
a country lane, remote villages and lakes. Our film opening adheres to this convention, as it
is set down a remote village path.

Although, we also challenged some forms and conventions used by real media products:
'Annabelle'
'Cecelia’Annie Wilkes - 'Misery'
The Conguring - Remote House ‘Hallowed Ground Path’
'Hallowed Ground'
We also did not have dialogue in our opening scene, this is also similar to the very
specific psychological horror genre.
Our opening was not as violent as some other film openings we researched. Our opening did
not contain any blood or mass killings that may occur in other horror films.
