El cuento
1. Sarah woke up at midnight, placed a flower in her hair and went straight
to her parents' room. He sat for a long time on the side of the bed where
his father slept.
Finally, he woke up and said:
"Sarah, what's up?" It is still night.
"You used to tell me how Grandpa took you to the lighthouse in the
middle of the night and now it's midnight, and I think you should take
me to you today."
His father remained in bed for a long time and finally said:
"Yes, I think today is the night."
They dressed quickly, got in the car and left in the direction of the
lighthouse. Everything was deserted. No cars were circulating and the
street lights made the sea fog shine.
"When my grandfather took me to the lighthouse, there were no lights on
the streets, nor the bakeries remained open at night," his father told him.
"Surely Grandpa would have stopped if a bakery had been open," Sarah
said.
"Surely," said his father.
2. They stopped and entered a bakery. They bought donuts and coffee. They
were the only customers in the entire store.
Grandpa really liked donuts and encouraged me a lot, I remember
Grandpa a lot - said Sarah.
"When I was little, my grandfather used to try me coffee, but I always felt
bitter," said Sarah's father.
They drank some coffee remembering grandpa. Dad's coffee was
delicious, but Sarah's tasted horrible. They drove to the outskirts of town
until they reached the road that led to the lighthouse.
"Grandpa always said you had to walk until you reach the lighthouse,"
Sarah's dad said.
"Sounds good to me," Sarah replied.
They parked the car and made their way through the mist. They sat to
rest on top of a rock watching the beach and heard the waves break
against the cliffs. Sarah finished eating her donut and her dad finished
the coffee.
I miss Grandpa very much, he was a very nice person with me, since he
always treated me very well - Sarah said.
3. "Of all the times I came with Grandpa," said Sarah's dad, "we never
climbed to the top of the lighthouse." The door was always closed. We
tried to open it, but it remained locked.
"I'm going to try," said Sarah.
He approached, turned the doorknob and the door opened. Sarah and
her father stared excitedly at that open door.
- And now that? Asked Sarah.
"Grandpa would have gone up," Sarah's father replied.
"Let's go up then," said Sarah.
They climbed the spiral staircase. One lap, another lap, another lap, and
more laps, until finally the light of the lighthouse was reflected on their
faces.
"I can see the infinite," said Sarah. Do you think grandpa can see me?
"I don't know," his father replied.
- Can you hear me? Asked Sarah. And, without waiting for an answer, he
shouted to the wind:
- ABUEEELOOO!
And they waited in silence.
4. "I don't think I'll answer you," his father told him.
And in the silence they heard the siren of the fog and looked at the mist
and the sea. Suddenly, Sarah took off the flower in her hair, the same
one she had kept from her grandfather's funeral, and threw it away, into
the sea.
"When I grow up and have a child, I will also bring him here one night,"
Sarah said.
"I'm sure you will," his dad replied.
And covered with dew, and wrapped in the smell of the sea, they returned
home in the mist.
