What training could you as a manager put into place to avoid this situation
1. What training could you as a manager put into place to avoid this situation?
I would use monthly training for HIPAA for staff so that they know if there has been any
changes towards what kinds of security training needs to be done along with the security that
would need to be updated as the system becomes necessary to update. Being able to have input
from the staff also helps to get the training correctly given to the staff when they see what could
be changed along with what should be refreshed more often so that everyone is on the same page
for keeping employees updated. Being able have all the staff keeping the security of the patient
would be a way to keep the facility from getting sued or have other legal obligations that could
affect the facility or staff jobs. Without having a good relationship between staff and patients
“can lead to healthcare providers seeking new and more profitable business relationships”
(Wolper, 2011).
How can this training on confidentiality be effective for the employees?
First the training would be effective since more staff understand the laws and the consequences
of not following the rules and legal laws of personal patient confidentiality. With the article
about “five reports of UCLA employees prying into medical records of celebrities without
permission, leading to staff firing, suspension and warnings” (News, 2008). I feel that being able
to hold staff accountable for going into records that they are not part of from the beginning of the
medical visit would help to show others the severity of now following the rules and regulations.
