1. “The HIPAA Privacy Rule provides federal protections for individually identifiable health
information held by covered entities and their business associates and gives patients an array of
rights with respect to that information. At the same time, the Privacy Rule is balanced so that it
permits the disclosure of health information needed for patient care and other important purposes
(Department of Health and Human Services, 2014).”
Don’t get caught breaching celebrity files!
As a manager, I could put in place a security password on celebrity personal information or
implement certain people as responsible staff that could only access these files marked
confidential. I would not specify who the individuals were. Only those staff with special need to
know basis would be able to access the files. I would also give specific instructions on what they
needed to do to keep that information to themselves and if broken, then consequences will be
followed for corrective action. I would also give training to the medical staff on what is expected
of them make sure that HIPAA is in full effect.
