Our film targets a female audience, particularly younger feminist women, by portraying a strong female protagonist who takes a leading role in the action. It also appeals to an older British audience through its filming in stereotypical upper-class British locations and its black-and-white, film noir style which evokes a sense of nostalgia. The typical audience member would be a young feminist interested in films featuring powerful female leads and a noir style like The Third Man, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Psycho or The Birds.
2. Gender of
the target
audience
Our film would appeal more to a female audience as it portrays
women in a different light to more mainstream film as our
female character is seen as a strong character who takes a
leading role in the action and is a more independent character
which challenges the ideals that the males are the violent ones
who are always the centre of attention and the centre of driving
the plot forward. Our character is the embodiment of the
feminist who strives for equal rights who would appeal to a lot of
females in this day and age. I would compare our female
character in some ways to the female protagonist in Kill BillVol.
1 & 2 as she is seen in a very strong and powerful way and
challenges the stereotypical woman.
Eva as a character is an embodiment of what women at that
time would want to do, take power and be in control, instead of
the lifestyle set out for them which is either housewife, trophy
wife or prostitute.
3. Nationality
of the target
audience
Our target audience is mainly those who are British as the
film is shot and based in this country.
The location of our shooting is a very stereotypically
upper class British location and this would appeal to a lot
of people as they could relate to the location which would
make it appealing to them (seen in the picture on the
left.)
In our actual shoot we shot it in black and white and
dimmed the lighting down to give it a more generic noir
feel and also to be like the glum British weather people
are used to so it would be more relatable and contrast
greatly to a more sunshine movie that are more
mainstream.
4. Age of the
target
audience
Our thriller was supposed to appeal to a young open
minded young woman and also the more elderly people
who enjoy the classic noir feel.
We put or opening in black and white to give it a class noir
feel such as theThird Man, so it would appeal to an elderly
audience who were around when these films were
mainstream and more readily available for viewing. It
would also give them a sense of nostalgia which would
appeal to them.
It would appeal to a younger audience as explained in the
previous slide it is supposed to embody a feminist and a
lot of feminist are younger women. It would also appeal
to a young audience because the actress who played Eva
is fairly young she would seem relateable.
5. What might our
generic target
audience
member be like?
Our typical character for someone who goes to watch our
movie would be a young feminist who has outer interests
in films such asTheThird Man,The GirlWithThe Dragon
Tattoo (A female who takes revenge on her abuser),
Psycho orThe Birds all of which have a very noir feel to
them.
She also might have interests in films with other women
protagonists such as Kill BillVol. 1 & 2,Thelma and Louise,
GoneWith theWind andThe Silence of the Lambs.
