Editor's Notes

  1. Today I would like to discuss the contrast between the City and the Countryside, and what the two have most in common.
  2. The city and the country are both places where people live which is why people seem to love both with equal passion. Some people like the lazy slow pace of the country life. Other people like the fast pace of the city hustle and bustle. These two places have many differences but also some similarities (Monette, Michael)
  3. Both areas have the good and the bad in comparison, yet both are loved by the people in the communities.
  4. The thesis is to compare country vs city and discuss the similarities and contrast between the two. Surprisingly, these two communities have a lot of contrast yet a lot of similarities as well. For instance, the reason why someone wants to live in a community might be for a completely different reason than another person.
  5. Take the city for instance; some of the positive reasons a person want to live in the city might be… (read bulleted areas)
  6. On the other hand, there are some big reasons why a person might not want to live in the city. Such as: Compared to the country there is more smog in the city. In contrast to the country, there is a lot of traffic in the city. Research has shown that there is a higher depression rate in people who live in the city. Although there is also crime in the country, in the city it is much less.
  7. In contrast to the reasons why someone might want to live in the city, the same thing goes for the countryside. People might want to live in the countryside because: In contrast to the city, there is no traffic in the country Compared to the city, the country is quiet The pace in the country is slower People who live in the country have a strong tie to their community Easier access to organic food Less stress than the hustle and bustle of the city Additionally, according to research people who live in the country have a lower cancer death rate, they experience less stress, and they have a greater “sense of community belonging”( Monette, Michael).
  8. On the flip side, there are many reasons why a person might not want to live in the country. For instance, in the country there is: Lack of services Less road maintenance Increased pests and insects Unlike the city, the country does not have a lot of entertainment therefore people are forced to get creative (Beck, Melinda).
  9. Comparing the two of these communities, it is easy to tell that both country and city have good and bad things about them and yet both communities have people who live and work in these areas.
  10. Most importantly, the city and the country are extremely different, yet they have one big thing in common…
  11. Poverty exists in both areas (Beck, Melinda).
  12. After reviewing this slideshow, it is clear to say that: There is a lot of contrast from the city to the country Both communities have good things about them Both communities have bad things about them Poverty is a problem within both communities
  13. Given these points I believe we covered a good area about the contrast and comparison regarding life in the city as opposed to life in the country. Both areas are quite different, yet both seem to struggle with some of the same social issues.
