B. S. Nagesh, is currently the
founder of TRRAIN- Trust for
Retailers and Retail Associates of
India
the Non-executive Vice-
Chairman, Shoppers Stop he has
been with department store since
its inception in 1991.
He has been the guiding force
from the first store set-up
in Andheri, Mumbai, where the
store has now reached a national
presence with 65 stores in the 32
cities spread across India.
4. He did his two-year management course from Banaras Hindu
University (BHU)where he specialised in marketing.
His keen interest in sports helped him develop a good team spirit,
which trickled down in his working in Shopper's Stop as well.
His personal experience translated into good work processes.
Ability to empathise with people is a result of his family background.
he proudly admits that his father completed his education under the
streetlight.
It was this sort of middle class upbringing that helped him in
understanding the psyche of his shoppers as well as employees

India in a survey of Managers who can influence Indian business in the

Commencing his career in 1982 with Blow Plast Ltd - the
manufacturers of VIP luggage and Leo toys.
Mr Nagesh has also worked with Orson sales Ltd (1986-1988) and
Carona Ltd (1988-1991).
He joined the K. Raheja Group in 1991 as a General Manager, to set
up the Group's retail business.
He subsequently went onto be the Managing Director & CEO of
Shoppers Stop from the year 1997, till 2009.

TRRAIN aims to help people in retail work better and
