Editor's Notes
I worked with Kanwal, Esther and Jojor and we managed the task by organising a location that suited our sequence and made sure we knew what role everyone had in the task. We divided the roles equally so that everyone had an equal input into the task Jojor and Kanwal were the actors in the sequence and they also came up with the storyline for the sequence. Myself and Esther divided the roles after that so I was camera man and she was on the white board doing the takes, she also helped me with editing after the sequence was shot. We organized our times efficiently by making sure we had at least 1 hour and a half to film so that we had time to retake shots or if anything went wrong during the filming process. The issues that came up with time management was that we was doing it after school and that someone could forget and or come late and cause a big delay. We lost our story board at some point so we had to re-do it which meant that wasted filming time. We made sure we got the storyboard re-done as quick as possible so that we could start filming again. Our strengths were that we communicated well and we knew what we was doing so we could get filming done quickly. Our weaknesses were that we did not keep our storyboard safe and that meant we lost time filming. I would make sure that next time I have everything I need to film before going to film so that there will be no drawbacks.
I planned my sequence by looking at previous work and getting ideas from them which meant it was easier to base my sequence around them. I first mind mapped a few ideas about the story line then when I was happy with it I turned it into a storyboard.
We used Cannon HD filming cameras we also used tripods that we had to use for all our shots, we also had a battery for the camera that only ran out once when we was filming which caused a little delay but recovered quickly. We also filmed using tape not SD cards. We used the tripod by checking the spirit level before we started using it so that all the shots would turn out perfect. The editing software we used was Adobe Premiere Pro and with this software it was easy to split, zoom in and out of your work and also organize your work together. I learnt that using the cameras was not as simple as I thought and I had to check a lot of things before I started using it, using the HD cameras also taught me that it was completely different to digital cameras (focus, zoom, framing).
I had to make sure the camera was securely stuck to the tripod and that the spirit level was checked before use, and as to planning we had to make sure we knew exactly what we was doing before hand as a problem could occur as it did (storyboard) and this means it could waste valuable shooting time. When I was editing I made sure I checked each shot one by one so that I would use the good shots instead of the bad takes, this meant I had to cut out takes that were not needed and crop the clip so that it worked well with the sequence as well as getting the sequence looking good and in order.
Overall I think our sequence was successful with a few downfalls as we did not get to finish our sequence hence why we were missing a few final shots to end the sequence nicely. We also needed to re-take a few shots as some were rushed and not gone through properly, with this said I still think overall the sequence went successfully and that we got the task done. If I could I would re-take some shots this will mean that the sequence will look better and move more smoother, also look more professional. This would also give me more shots to choose from and which ones fit the sequence better.
I have learnt how to work with people I don’t know, which I had to try and communicate with and work with so that the task would be a success. I have also learnt that I should manage my time more effectively and try get everything I need to film before hand. I have learnt that I have to be more organized with my storyboard and shots as I have come to see that if I prepared more before filming it would of went much smoother and more successful. During this task I have also learnt how to set up for filming e.g. setting up tripod, spirit level learning these technical parts means I can go out and film anytime myself.
I have learnt that with editing the sequence you had to look closely at the clip to make sure it was synchronized with the clips before so that nothing looks messy, I also found out that it would be easier to zoom in and out of the work to get more precise viewing. I was editing and me and my group discussed what clips should go where and how long each shot should be so that the sequence looked most effective. During the editing we just went along and edited how we wanted it to look, our limit time on editing was 1 hour so we all had to work together to make sure we keep up with that deadline. My strengths in this area is that I knew how to edit a little before hand so this gave me a upper hand and this also saved a lot of time, and our weaknesses were that we could not figure out what shots we wanted to use and which ones we didn’t. Next time I will shoot all the shots necessary for my sequence and make sure I have the storyboard ready so that I can just start filming straight away.
