then we have 50 minutes for lunch. After that,

7. FOCUS ON LANGUAGE: ADVERBS OF FREQUENCY
EXPLORATION
Adverbs of frequency and expressions of frequency tell us how often an activity happens. We can use adverbs of frequency
with the verb to be, other verbs, modal and auxiliary verbs. But it must be placed according to the verb and the statement we
use (affirmative, negative, or interrogative).
NOTE EXAMPLE
With the verb be They go after verb be I am always late for work.
With all other verbs They go before the main verb They sometimes take a taxi.
With auxiliar or
negative statement
They go between the
auxiliary and the main verb.
We don’t usually watch TV after lunch
I have never visited USA..
With question
They go between the subject
and the main verb.
Do you always eat here?
With modal verb
They go between the modal
verb and the main verb.
We might never see each other again.
• Negative adverbs such as never, seldom, rarely and hardly ever cannot be used in negative statements, because there cannot
be a double denial in English: (X) The weather isn’t never sunny. / ( ) The weather is never sunny.
• We can use usually, often, sometimes, and occasionally at the beginning of a sentence, and sometimes and often at the end:
Sometimes we go fishing. / We sometimes go fishing . / We go fishing sometimes
• Expressions of frequency go at the end of the statement, and they can be used with adverbs of frequency in the same
sentences: We usually go swimming twice a month..
