2. Mission Statement
Model United Nations (also Model UN or MUN) is an
academic simulation of the United Nations that aims
to educate participants about current events, topics in
international relations, diplomacy and the United
Nations agenda.
3. What do MUN students do?
Participants research a country, take on roles as
diplomats, investigate international issues, debate,
deliberate, consult, and then develop solutions to
world problems.
4. Delegates
Over a series of committee
sessions, the delegates have
to work together
constructively in order to
introduce working papers
and eventually draft
resolutions. The sessions
end when the committee
votes on all the introduced
draft resolutions, generally
choosing to adopt a single
document that addresses
the problem being
discussed.
6. Benefits
Model UN is a great way to connect teachers and
students from Macedonia (and region)
A valuable resource to help students develop
negotiation skills, learn effective communication skills
and form solutions
Broaden one’s perspective on a variety of international
topics
Students develop the
leadership, organizational, creative, and personal skills
that will be useful for their career
7. How can we start a team in our
community?
First, find a few like-minded friends. They don’t have
to be experts in debate, just interested in learning
more about the world!
Designate one motivated person as the team leader –
they will act as a “captain,” guiding the team’s research
and practice activities.
Begin to practice debate ASAP. Once your team
receives its country, you may begin writing your
position papers and will be able to focus your energy
on learning more about the specific topics of debate.
Remember to keep it fun!
