This document summarizes the core areas of expertise and highlights of a professional with experience in business development, field work, and environmental projects for an engineering consultancy. Their business development experience includes acquiring new clients through proposals and maintaining marketing materials. Their field work experience includes environmental response for oil spills, sampling soil and water to identify contamination, and conducting feasibility studies and developing plans like SPCC and risk management plans.
Environmental Engineering and Consulting Experience
1. Core areas of expertise:
• Business development for an environmental, civil, and geotechnical engineering
consultancy.
• Field work on environmental projects.
Business Development Highlights -
Acquisition of new clients through personal contact, networking, and written cost proposals
(both self-directed or team-written proposals). Recent successes include subsidence
evaluations and geotechnical hazards analyses for a major natural gas production,
transportation, and distribution company in the Intermountain West; slope stability and
mitigation evaluations for a natural gas transportation pipeline in the Pacific Northwest; canal
levee deficiency evaluations for Salt Lake County; environmental investigations and stream
channel evaluations for a major petroleum pipeline company; SPCC Plans and Oil Spill
Contingency Plan for a major university; SPCC Plan and Risk Management Plan for a
geothermal power plant; SPCC Plan for a U.S. National Security Agency data storage center.
Written Statements of Qualifications to provide professional engineering services to public
and private sector entities. Representative submittals include qualifications to evaluate the
adequacy of a Facility Response Plan under OPA-90 for an oil processing facility in San
Diego; subsurface investigations at numerous facilities; pre-qualification proposal to provide
Architectural and Engineering services to the Utah Division of Purchasing; pre-qualification
proposal to receive a Master Services Contract for providing environmental services to the
Utah Division of Water Quality.
Experience writing and maintaining company project descriptions, press releases, and
capabilities statements.
Experience hosting tradeshow booths.
Field Work Highlights -
• Expertise providing environmental response and remediation services on more than
25 inland oil spill sites. Accustomed to working under the Incident Command and
Unified Command systems. Equally able to coordinate and principally self-direct field
work to delineate contaminant boundaries, collect field and laboratory samples, monitor
water control structures, develop mass balance quantities of released contaminants, and
technical reporting. Special expertise using the Shoreline Cleanup Assessment
Technique developed by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to
uniformly evaluate and respond to environmental impacts from oil spills. Knowledge of
Quality Assurance Project Plans, Sampling and Analysis Plans, and Health and Safety
Plans.
• Extensive experience executing, supervising, and observing surface and subsurface
sampling campaigns to identify the extend and magnitude of contamination in soils,
sludges, sediments, and water. Site work performed at various facilities including
petroleum refineries, petroleum pipelines, a low-level radioactive waste repository, a U.S.
Air Force base, legacy contamination sites, a storm water conveyance canal, and
2. numerous commercial and industrial facilities. Prepared draft Quality Assurance Project
Plan for long-term groundwater monitoring of a 600-acre petroleum refinery. Performed
numerous remote surface water monitoring campaigns to establish baseline water quality
values in connection with coal mine permit applications. Experience writing sampling
plans, reporting field activities, summarizing field and laboratory analytical data.
Knowledge using a variety of field monitoring and sampling equipment for collecting
solid and liquid samples from surface and subsurface environments.
• Expertise performing bench-scale feasibility studies including determining optimal
reagent applications for development of a slurry wall barrier at a chemical manufacturing
facility, conducting soil respirometry tests to evaluate the feasibility of using
bioremediation to clean up wastewater pond sediments, compaction testing to determine
optimal reagent types and quantities for solidification of 230,000 cubic yards of non-
RCRA petroleum waste. Executed several pilot-scale projects to evaluate the feasibility
of using white rot fungi to bio-remediate recalcitrant organic compounds in soil.
• Developed a Risk Management Plan under 40 CFR 68 regulations for a geothermal
power plant. Developed SPCC plans for a major Utah university, an electric power
generation plant, a detergent manufacturer, and a U.S. data storage facility. Prepared an
Oil Spill Contingency Plan for a major Utah university.
• Experience monitoring and maintaining a Total Oxygen Demand process analyzer in
service to monitor waste water oxygen demand prior to being discharged into the
municipal sewer of a laundry detergent manufacturing facility. Also performed quarterly
wastewater sampling, designed a new waste water sample collection station, conducted
hazardous waste inspections, assisted in revising a waste water permit application,
screened waste products for recycling, and managed lamp disposal at the facility.
• Expertise preparing Phase I Environmental Site Assessments.
