3. Almost blacks. Autumn-Winter 2016/17 is all about
Darks. This collection has a Gothic spirit, lighten up
by the flickering light of the candles and the shim-
mer of the gold embellishments.
Decadent roses are at the centre or every bead-
work. This is the new Baroque, intended as “move-
ment imported into mass”, an art antithetic to the
Renaissance art.
Ravens appear here and there, They are a refer-
ence to Poe’s narrative poem and the girl he writes
about, Lenore: the forgotten love. The light accents
in this mood are a reminder of her, re-emerging
from the darkest corner of the memory.
She is mysterious, sensual and elegant, Young
and full of energy she’s ready for every occasion,
always feminine and classy; modest behind her
dark colours but always in the spotlight.

Spring Summer 2016
These early directives for Spring Summer
2016 are coming from some of the most fa-
mous Trends Forecasting websites such as:
WGSN.com
WeConnectFashion.com
Trend Council
PatternCurator
They have been carefully reviewed and se-
lected after a thorough comparison with
our own internal market researches, sales
reports, notes and sketches from differ-
ent Inspirational trips and travels in vari-
ous great fashion capitals such as Milan
and London.
Materials and
Beadworks have
been selected
after various
meetings with
our suppliers in
China and India.
Visiting markets
and exhibitions
in Europe and
Asia gave us
the best rang-
es and prices to
choose from.

ed following Dynasty tastes and critirias.
EMERGING COLOURS AND STORIES:
#1 SWEET SOUR AND FLOWER:
#2 GLAZED PASTEL:
#3 COAL AND GOLD:
#4 AT THE BOTTOM OF THE OCEAN:
SS16 will be a triumph of sheer materials
and scattered beadworks. A woman’ sil-
houette will be particularly enhanced, es-
pecially on the waist point. Beadworks will
be encrusted with beads condensed to-
gether like in a blackberry and beautifully
shining like a scattered mirror or broken
ice. Gold and Silver will shine and give light
to a summer full of neutral and deep col-
ours.

There are many trends driving inspiration for AW’16/17,
Below l have captured a selected few examples:
EMERGING TRENDS, A/W 17:
CONTRAST,
IN A WIDE SPLIT
TURTLENECKS are everywhere on
the catwalks, but if you look closer
you will notice how many of them
are without cuts or seamlines: all the
volume comes from the PATTERNS.
Seamless Turtle
COLOURS
As seen in many AW16-
17 shows, the skirts are
of different lengths
but have something in
common: a wide split in
which you can clearly
spot a contrasting ma-
terial and colour.

As Vogue.co.uk says: “Nina
Ricci’s came English-gent
style, Marni’s had a low
crotch and a large belt, Ver-
sace’s were super tight, and
Balenciaga’s were paired
with seriously frosty footwear.
Prepare for the onslaught of
the ski pant.”
In this look they are designed
to be extremely well fitting.

OUTERWEAR DESIGNS
River Island inspired
Beautiful, vivid colours and prints are
strongly present among the trends driving
Spring Summer 2017.
Following what I believe that River Island is,
I have captured the most relevant trend
forecasts to inspire the 6 designs that I have
developed for the brand.
Here are some of the SS’17
trend forecasts I have used:
30. NEW LOOK
February Event, SS17
EACH STORY HAS ITS OWN MOODBOARD, THIS IS RAW COAST
MOODBOARD & COLOURS, “RAW COAST”
RAW COAST
After a thorough analy-
sis of the SS’17 forecasts
& previous catwalks I
put together this visual
Moodboard.
I focus on different sto-
ries every season and
this is one of them, in-
spired by the SS’17 trend
“Visionary”.
Raw Coast is inspired by
beautiful seaside land-
scapes, salty air and
shades of blue.
Colours are diluted but
still bright. Light shades
of greens and blue are
everywhere, together
with sandy gold and
beige.
Stripes are always asso-
ciated with the sea but
this time featuring more
colours contrasting to-
gether.
Luxury & comfort live
perfectly together here,
letting our man blend
naturally in with the
beautiful landscapes.

OUTFIT N.1
ECHOING COLOURS
DETAILS ON TROUSERS
best selling Bomber jacket!
(Images taken from the SS’16
and AW’17 catwalks).
Jackets and Blazers echo the
colours of the prints used on
shirts and t-shirts.
The Checks of the shirt used in
Outfit N.1 consist of 3 colours,
Pale Green, Beige and Navy
same as the Bomber jacket on
top.
Details on the knees are a must
for the SS’16 and AW ‘17 shows!
The seam lines on the knees of
Outfit N.1 are a commercial way
of translating this trend.
They transform a regular pair of
denim into something new, rich
in details and structure.
WeConnect Fashion says:

OUTFIT N.2
SARTORIAL SHORTS
(Images from the SS16 catwalks).
As seen in ‘Tailored Downtime’
trend summary from New Look’s
Blog, the coolest street-style is to
use smart & sartorial pieces with-
in even the most casual of looks.
Tonal dressing is a fundamental
part of this look. It’s important
not to loose the bright accents,
typical of Summer!

OUTFIT N.3
DEEP POCKETS & ZIP
With zips or buttons, pockets
are many and all over for
this season, often contrast-
ing with the underlying gar-
ment colour.
Trend emerging from AW17:
Zips instead of buttons for
the numerous henleys.
On pockets or necklines contrasting piping make every
garment look bold and strong.

OUTFIT N.4
PRACTICAL & SMART
(Images from the SS16 catwalks).
Next season will be about travel-
ling and practicality.
What item could serve these
purposes better than a rain coat
with multifunctional pockets.
Outfit N.4 was born from the
‘Jungle Book’ Trend Council’s re-
port, and made commercial by
the use of basic but smart items.

OUTFIT N.5
CASUAL JOGGER-STYLE
TRENDZOOM’s Big Overview on
Trends for SS’17 says:
“Easy lounge-wear and soft tai-
loring are elevated in luxury fab-
rics and relaxed finishes. Materi-
als are creased and crushed into
natural textures”
Outfit N.5 is working on this trend,
using comfy joggers with elastic
band on waist and soft materials.
Many shades of light
blue have been used
both in SS’16 and
AW’17 instead of
Denim.
Street trends once
again see shirts to be
used as such or as a
smart jacket.

OUTFIT N.6
RAGLAN SLEEVES:
COLOURS
SPRING TURTLE
Both SS’16 and AW’17 feature a
very special style of Turtle Neck.
As you can see in some of the
images above, the higher neck-
line is realised without the use of
seam-lines, using just a really soft
draping of textile.
Outfit N.6 is exploring this trend,
pairing it with raglan sleeves and
chinos.

34. WIDE-LEG TROUSERS
Relaxed trousers are coming back
on the scene! They’re really working
with everything in SS’16 & AW’17.
NEW HALF, SMART&CASUAL
Half sleeves are now up to the el-
bow. This is a trend that keeps com-
ing up in both SS’16 & AW’17, fea-
turing in different kind of garments.
FROM A THOROUGH RESEARCH,
There are many more trends coming up for SS’17, for example:
‘short jackets’, ‘suede’, ‘sport gets elevated’, ‘Jacket on Jacket’, ‘Shorter Shorts’, ‘Femme Element’, ‘Modern Denim’, ‘Unexpected Pin Stripe’, etc...

other than wide-leg trousers we
can now find tapered fit trousers,

35. A SPREAD FOCUSING ON
MY DESIGN PROCESS
1. RESEARCH & KEEP UP
TO DATE
4. SOURCING MATERIALS
2. CREATE BOARDS
3. COLOUR CARD
Surfing the Web and visiting
Trades Shows for me is the
best way to find out what the
trends for next season are go-
ing to be.
Studying the most recent
Catwalks helps me find out
where the market is heading.
Always being involved in the
Social Media’s world gives
me a clear idea of what the
customers want and look for.
I also love studying the com-
pany’s history, knowing what
the best and worst sellers
have been and make sure I
do my best to know what the
Brand Identity, Customer’s
Profiles and Price Target are.
Putting together all those info
helps me creating the best
possible product!
Next step for me is to
keep at hand trends
and colours and go
to sourcing trips to find
materials, Europe and
Asia have been very
inspiring and I can’t
wait to travel more to
see what the rest of the
world has to offer!
Even the most simple
outfit can turn into
something amazing
with the right textiles!
After all that research a put together a
Trends Study where I summarize all the bullet
point that my Outfits will need to contain.
Creating visual MoodBoards for different
stories helps me with Prints, Colours &
Materials. These boards were
made for AW16.
Colours are forecasted as well as trends and
its very important to me to consider all the
options and then select the best one de-
pending on the Brand Identity and Selling
history.
5. SKETCHING
6. COLOURING 7. CAD DRAWINGS
My initial sketches are quick
and neat, I like to show the
structure of a garment and
make sure that all the details
are in their right place.
I make sure that half of the
jacket is always shifted or
lifted to show the rest of the
outfit.
The proportions in my sketch-
es are close to a real life size
M and that help with the de-
sign of the flats.
This basic sketch can then be
scanned and coloured.
I can colour a drawing by
hand or using Photoshop/Il-
lustrator, depending on the
brand’s own style, requests
and timing.
The drawing on the left was
rendered entirely by hand.
I really enjoy creating CAD
drawings for my designs.
Usually I draw them in Illus-
trator, and I am very confi-
dent with both versions for
PC & MACs.
For measures & Tech Packs I
use InDesign or Excel.
If the colours
are not the one
I wanted, it’s
easy to change
them in Pho-
toshop. Same
if variants are
needed!
