Mile-A-Thon
Purpose: To address Larimer county employee’s participation in regular physical activity.
Mission:To increase Larimer county employee engagement in regular physical fitness and to
develop healthy lifestyle habits.
Goals:
 Increase physical activity
 Motivate and encourage the incorporation of physical activity into regular lifestyle
habits
 Offer various activities at achievable levels
Objectives:
 The physical fitness program will allow employees to participate in a variety of
appropriate physical activities.
 The physical fitness program will develop and reinforce healthy lifestyle behaviors.
 The physical fitness program will educate employees on establishing lifelong fitness
goals.
 The physical fitness program will educate employees on health benefits of physical
fitness.
 Evaluate the success of the purpose and mission of program
 Reduce risk of chronic disease among employees.
Program Overview:
“Mile-A-Thon”
Kick off the fall season on the right foot! The Mile-A-Thon Campaign will challenge you to log as
many miles as you can for 6 weeks dates. Choose one of the following activities that is enjoyable
for you to earn wellness miles! Follow the chart to determine the number of wellness miles you
can earn for each activity. Track your progress on your logging form for 6 weeks. At the end of the
challenge,total your wellnessmilesandreferto the scoringchart belowto determine the number
of wellness points that will be awarded for your success.

Scoring:
Gold: 40 miles + (4 points)
Silver: 30 miles + (3 points)
Bronze: 15 miles + (2 point)
Honorable mention: 10 miles + (1 point)
Plan:
 Type of Challenge: Individual physical fitness challenge
 Who will help with planning/running the challenge?: Wellness interns
 How will you involve employees in the planning and give them opportunity to provide
input?: Facebook page, provide wellness intern email for questions, comments,
concerns
 When will meetings occur for the planning?: Prior to campaign launch, weekly check-in
with Wellness Coordinator, weekly check-ins, via email, with BAM representatives, final
evaluation with Wellness Coordinator
 What prizes/recognition will be awarded for the challenge?:
o Number of wellness miles will correlate to number of wellness points awarded at
the end of the campaign (participants must finish end of campaign survey and
submit time sheet to wellness interns by one week post end of campaign)
o Randomized weekly drawings to award active participants (any participant who
complete the initial survey one week prior to launch of campaign will be
considered an active participant)
 Weekly Prizes:
 Week 1: One month membership to gym
 Week 2: T-shirt & water bottle
 Week 3: Whole foods gift card: ($20)
 Week 4: Gift card to Sports Authority ($25)
 Week 5: Ipod Shuffle ($40)
 Week 6: Fitbit ($75)
 How will registration work and who will track it?:
o Send out flyer via email to all Larimer county employees with survey/registration
and activity log attachment one week prior to campaign start date
 Survey will act as registration to consider participants active in campaign
 Activity log via excel spreadsheet will be logged and recorded throughout
the duration of campaign (6 weeks) and submitted to wellness intern via
email by one week post end date
 How will you evaluate the challenge?:
o Post campaign, an email with an attached link to an evaluation survey will be
sent to all Larimer county employees; those who participated must complete
evaluation survey and submit time sheet to wellness interns one week post end
date.
o Wellness interns will review participation, time sheets and feedback from survey
to evaluate effectiveness of campaign.

Evaluation
 Count the number of tracking form submissions for a measure of participation.
 If participation was low, ask employees what the workplace can do to make it better.
 Be sure to ask employees how they like the challenge.
 Offer evaluation to get employee feedback (online survey will be offered).
 Review summary of the evaluations and plan for future activities.
