1. How did your production skills
develop throughout this
project?
2. production skills developed extremely well throughout this project
preliminary task
My production skills developed extremely well throughout this project not only by doing a preliminary task which is a task where we were asked to create a very small scene and edit it with the rules of 180 degree, match on action, shot
reverse shot learning how to create continuity, these tasks made my skills develop massively as prior to this, I had never touched a camera let alone applied and understood the 180 degree rule!
3. • 180 degree rule
In media the definition of the 180 degree rule is a filmmaking technique that helps the audience keep track of where your characters are in a scene. When you have two people or two groups facing each other in the same shot, you have to establish a 180-
degree angle, or a straight line, between them.
4. • match on action,
creates a connection between the two scenes representative within the film to help the audience exhibit the connection in the story
involves the use of actions taking place within the two scenes.
5. • shot reverse shot
technique that involves two characters in the same scene who are filmed separately using different camera angles.
Originally I actually tried to do this in my film with the cupboard moving and the literal girl but the angles of the camera were not the best that I wanted to us.
6. premiere pro
Since then i have learnt many new skill sets such as using premium pro and the skills that come along with that such as integrating sound, finding sound that matches on different websites, editing the picture and
colour grade, as well as picture and colour grade, fade in fade out, sound bridges
7. integrating sound
Within the Media Browser, navigate to your audio file, right-click (Windows) or Control-click (macOS) it, and select Import to add it to the Project panel. Make sure the Ingest box is selected if you want to simultaneously copy the audio file to your project
folder
8. picture and colour grade
Using the picture and colour really helped me as due to the weather Changs act the lighting kept on changing and by using these techniques I made it all look okay then before, I had absolutely no knowledge of this before I
started this media course.
9. sound bridges
connect one visual scene to another through sound, learning how to do this was actually quite useful as it gives the audience a sort of clue as what type of movie this is and what the mood of what’s about to happen is without even visually
seeing it which I felt learning was very useful.
10. Research skills
researched film openings
Monsters Inc
celtx, storyboarding, shortlisting pre production skill
For example, I researched film openings and ended up finding one which correlated with my theme which is Monsters Inc and I developed my idea even more through that.
As well as using celtx, storyboarding, shortlisting pre production skill
11. • celtx
I used Celtx to create my original first draft of my script and learning how to use this software website was very difficult for me as u had to learn how to write a script in a professional way as well as add sound even if your movie had no actual
spacing in.
12. plan around covid
weather kept changing
carry on shooting the next day
conflicting schedules
My planning skills additionally improved as i had to plan around covid which was not ideal at all as whenever we were meant to film someone had covid ect which made planning incredibly complicated and pushed the
boundaries in order of ensuring continuity as we had to shoot over several days and the weather kept changing and the actors kept wearing different clothes despite being told to wear the same things every time!!
As well as originally we did not plan around the natural lighting that shines out the curtains/windows meaning we had to carry on shooting the next day at the same time to get the same effect of lighting from our previous shots..
Also, our young cast had conflicting schedules which meant I had to be incredibly diplomatic and organised rather than getting frustrated. I had to make sure shooting scripts were distributed prior to the days shoot and everyone
knew exactly what was expected of them. I was quite shocked by the amount of organisation it actually took – it was really stressful!
13. Production skills
physical equipment such as the canon 5D
shutter speed, iso ect
Tripod/ gimbal
My production skills also developed well with physical equipment such as the canon 5D having to learn how to work the shutter speed, iso ect as well as learning how to use the tripod we were given as it was not an easy one to use as it was very stiff.
I found the gimbal incredibly hard to use as it took on a life of its own and was very stiff. I worried that this would affect the quality and make the footage look shaky – luckily there is a stabilising effect in Premiere Pro which I was able to use – another
example of my production skills developing!
14. • canon 5D
• shutter speed
• iso
One of the many things I had to learn was the shutter speed which is when the actual shutter lets in the amount of light u want and u can change that whenever u want
As well as learning about the iso camera's sensitivity to light
When I first started media I had very basic knowledge about how to use a normal camera let alone a more modern digital one and about all the properties such as iso and shutter speed etc
