a tour of Cittadella featuring a walk around the
city’s walls and visits to Palazzo Pretorio, the Ca-
thedral and the Teatro Sociale.
This is the company’s vision: we need to be will-
ing to put ourselves on the line every day.
A principle we have supported since 1961, when
my father, Ottorino Reffo, founded a small busi-
ness in Facca di Cittadella, in the province of
Padua. And it’s still that way: the company’s
technicians continue to work on new solutions,
and are the first to want to try out the latest new
cutting-edge plants. Customers who rely on La
Meccanica know they can count on the most ad-
vanced technologies at any time.
This is because quality is La Meccanica’s strong
point: in everything we do, we think like the
sculptor who carves a statue out of a block of
stone, with creativity and passion for his work;
quality demonstrated by an efficient, complete
24-hour a day assistance service for our cus-
tomers, one of our key strong points. One of the
Group’s member companies, Lamec Italia, pro-
vides assistance, maintenance and optimisation
of mechanical systems, in addition to high pre-
cision component manufacture with use of nu-
merically controlled machinery and non-stop
research into new generation tools and control
systems.
We are committed to serving our customers ev-
ery day: La Meccanica can truly claim to have
not customers but partners, listening to them at-
tentively at all times and supporting them with
reliable, dependable solutions that have led us
to design and build more than 200 (?) different
products over the years, each based on the cus-
tomer’s own specific needs.
The other key features of our approach are trans-
parency, translating into an ability to gain our
customers’ trust, now a strategic factor in the
presence of growing uncertainty on the market,
making trust an increasingly important factor.
To boost this trust and therefore personal rela-
tions with our customers and distributors, we not
only make sure we get to know each other but
have added to our incoming services to offer a
complete, authentic overview of our company
and its mission.
Another key value is responsibility, a factor of
particular importance to the Reffo family, who
founded the Group, as they have always consid-
ered “doing business” to be not only a matter of
generating profit and value but a social mission
with a great impact on people’s lives: from the
team to consultants, from the local area to the
community in which the enterprise is based.
This responsibility translates into concrete proj-
ects ranging from ongoing professional devel-
opment to creation of a corporate academy for
the development of technical skills to be imple-
mented in a network with other companies in
the area; from involvement in the schools, with
organisation of educational programmes for the
young (on-the-job training) and meetings with
students and families; from groups of small enter-
prises to implementation of innovative projects
on the internet promoting the growth of the Reffo
Group and sharing its benefits with the commu-
nity. The latest of these is the “WelfareNet”, a
corporate welfare project providing services to
improve employees’ well-being in response to
specific needs and requirements.

LA MECCANICA:
A GUARANTEE OF
INNOVATION, QUALITY,
TRANSPARENCY AND
RESPONSIBILITY FOR
MORE THAN 50 YEARS
One of the key features charac-
terizing an enterprise is its system
of values: the true foundations of
growth and development.
La Meccanica has not made
any changes to these key pillars
over half a century in business:
innovation, a focus on the cus-
tomer, quality, transparency
and responsibility.
Innovation has always been a
challenge our company enjoys. A key feature of
all our plants is a focus on new technologies and
on the highest quality standards on the market.
All results achieved represent a starting point for
further improvement, to make another step for-
ward. Study, research, and innovation are the
keys to overcoming these difficulties and coming
out of them even stronger.

The machine costs less than a double crum-
bler, but offers the same or better perfor-
mance, quality and efficiency.
C1.350.CE CRUMBLER
High performance at
competitive prices
The C1.350.CE crumbler was designed to
boost the potential of La Meccanica’s range.
The product maintains the productive ca-
pacity of a double crumbler, with rollers
measuring 250 mm in diameter and 1800
mm in length assembled on a system of
springs that protects them against foreign
matter that could enter during feeding.
The distance between the rollers may be ad-
justed between 0 and 3 mm with a servomo-
tor, and their distance is monitored using a
potentiometer connected with the screw for
adjusting the distance between the rollers.
One important benefit is belt transmission,
which significantly cuts noise levels and im-
proves the machine’s dependability over a
conventional gear transmission, cutting the
amount of time required for maintenance.
One of the critical points for a machine’s
functioning is entry of foreign matter in the
feed; in the case of the C1.350.CE crumbler,
the transmission allows the belts to slide, pre-
venting interlocking problems and decreas-
ing the probability of damage to the ma-
chine in such an event. Moreover, a larger
roller diameter and high engine power (37
kW) improve evacuation of foreign matter.
The C1.350.CE crumbler is smaller in size
than a double crumbler – an aspect that im-
proves the ratio of hourly production to ma-
chine bulk – and its frame has been made
more rigid; the strength of the supports and
use of top quality bearings guarantees high
performance throughout the machine’s lifes-
pan.
THE CLM935 M-LG
PELLET MILL
Simplicity and
strength for
guaranteed high
output
La Meccanica designed the CLM 935 M-LG
pellet mill to achieve extremely high output
even with very difficult products. During
testing in a wood pellet plant in the United
States it achieved a productive capacity of
7.0 t/h.
The CLM 935 LG can be used with engines
up to 370 kW (500 Hp) and may be fitted
with a conditioner 1830 mm or 2630 mm
long, depending
on the product
being processed.
Its principal fea-
tures are sim-
plicity and

for these sectors.
The product that has
made the company
famous all over the
world is the pellet mill,

and built entirely in
the plant in Cittadella,
in the province of Pa-
dova.
One of the company’s
strong points is preci-
sion, quality and flexi-

SANITATION
Advanced
technology for
healthy feed
Feed production must guarantee perfect
hygiene at all stages in production, storage
and transportation and absence of patho-
gens. This is why the product is sanitized: a
process offering a technical, physiological
and nutritional guarantee.
La Meccanica performs the process through
hydrothermal treatment with prolonged
conditioning. In this sanitation process, the
product is preheated with steam in a ther-
mal conditioner, then goes on to the SNF
sanitizer, a container with double walls heat-
ed with diathermic oil, in which preheated
meal is kept for long enough to eliminate
all heat-sensitive pathogenic components.
Control of speed and permanence and high
thermal inertia of the oil mass allows the
system to permit constant, precise control of
heat treatment parameters. All parts in con-
tact with raw materials, including the shafts
and paddles of the thermal conditioner, the
sanitizer shaft and coil, connecting pipes
and screw feeders, are made of stainless
steel to eliminate corrosion and minimize risk
of product contamination. Conditioning can
increase the productivity of the press by up
to 15% as well as improving pellet durability.
This achieves 3 goals: eliminating salmo-
nella, gelatinizing starch and sanitizing the
product.
ALL THE SECRETS OF
THE OPEN AREA
The open area is the percentage represent-
ing the ratio between the open surface of the
extruder (holes) and the total surface of the
work area:
number of holes
X area of each hole / width of the
perforated strip
X internal diameter of the extruder X Π
The greater the percentage of open area,
the greater productivity will be, calculated
as follows:
percentage of open area
X specific weight of product to be
processed
= productivity index
Is productivity directly proportionate to the
“open” surface of an extruder?
To produce more, should an extruder have
as little material as possible between holes?
Generally speaking, a greater open area
means greater productivity, but the answer
is not as simple and obvious as it may seem.
A whole series of factors go into play during
production which must not be underestimat-
ed:
• type of product to be pelletized
• preparation of raw material
• mechanical factors
• grid of holes
Type of product to be pelletized:
there are feeds that are “easy” to pelletize,
such as poultry feed. For this type of feed,
which has a low fibre content, a few extra
rows of holes are often required, with less
space between holes: this is the case of “high
density” extruders, which do not require a
lot of force, and so an extruder with a large
open area can withstand the force applied
to it without breaking. Then there are feeds
that are “difficult” to pelletize, such as straw
or hay, which contain a very large amount
of fibre. In this case “low density” extruders
are used, with more space between holes
and therefore a smaller open area; in many
cases the working area of the extruder is
smaller, to reduce force and therefore risk of
breakage. Lastly, “standard density” extrud-
ers are used with “generic” materials that
do not contain a high percentage of fibre
and represent a good compromise between
open area and extruder strength.
Preparation of raw materials:
one factor that should not be underestimat-
ed is how the raw materials have been pre-
pared. In some cases we have found that
coarsely ground raw materials work better
with extruders that have a smaller open
area. The reason is that the steel between
the holes somehow grinds the product a lit-
tle, preventing large pieces of material from
going through the holes and obstructing pas-
sage, and thereby increasing productivity.
Mechanical strength factors:
perhaps the most delicate factor to be tak-
en into consideration when deciding on the
open area of an extruder. Always remem-
ber that an extruder is a piece of steel that
has undergone processes (such as lathing
and perforation) which “weaken” it and heat
treatments (such as vacuum tempering) that
harden it. After all these production process-
es, we have an extruder representing the
right compromise between hardness (resis-
tance to deformation of its original shape)
and fragility (resistance to breakage once it
has been deformed from its original shape).
This good compromise, which we define as a
hardness of 52-54HRC after heat treatment,
may be lost if more holes than the standard
are made, weakening the material and in-
creasing risk of breakage. The only way to
get around this is to make the extruder less
hard, with a value below 52HRC, but while
less likely to break, an extruder of this type
would get worn faster.
Taking all these factors into consideration,
might we say that a larger open area means
greater productivity? The answer is yes, but
only if the raw material has been prepared
correctly, otherwise there is a risk of decreas-
ing productivity, and only if the formula has
a low fibre content, because otherwise you
will be able to produce more, but only brief-
ly, as the extruder will end up breaking.
In addition to the greater risk of breaking the
extruder, we must take into account faster
wear and tear, and calculate whether the
additional production that may be obtained
with a larger open area will compensate the
greater cost due to faster wear of the extrud-
er and shutdowns to change it.

EXPO VENETO 2015
What does a company that has been design-
ing and making livestock feed machinery
have to do with the Expo 2015 slogan, “Feed
the Planet”?
A lot:
· presence in the food industry (for animals),
with production of plants and machinery for
livestock feed
· a role in the green economy through pro-
duction of plants and machinery for biomass,
fertilizers and recycling
· a focus on the environment, with 5 sustaina-
ble production lines
· awareness of corporate responsibility, trans-
lating into projects for the local area, for re-
search, innovation and training for young
people.
On the occasion of EXPO 2015, La Meccanica
has come up with a project for the promotion
of Veneto and the Cittadella area in particu-
lar, home of the company for more than 50
years.
All La Meccanica agents, distributors and
customers are offered an opportunity to tour
the company followed by a trip to a near-
by place which is off the tourist track but
extremely interesting, especially in terms of
gastronomic traditions.
The proposed itineraries include:
- a visit to the Grappa Museum in Bassano
del Grappa (Vicenza) and a guided tour of
the city
- a visit to Monteversa, a winery in the Colli
Euganei area near Padova
- a meeting with key players in the Veneto

PROMOTING RESEARCH
AND EDUCATION
IN PAKISTAN WITH
PELLET MILLS
Agreement signed
between universities,
La Meccanica and
distributor Bio-Vet
On February 18 the University of Veterinary
and Animal Sciences in Lahore, Pakistan
signed an agreement with Bio-Vet (the live-
stock feed specialist which distributes La
Meccanica’s products in Pakistan) and La
Meccanica to promote student education and research, with a special focus on poul-
try nutrition and poultry feed production.
Under the agreement, La Meccanica will
donate a pellet mill to Lahore University for
installation on the Ravi Campus to promote
students’ contact with the dynamics of poul-
try feed production.
In return, the university will share the results
of the studies performed by Veterinary and
Animal Sciences students and faculty mem-
bers with Bio-Vet and La Meccanica. The
three parties will also cooperate on organisa-
tion of seminars, workshops and exhibitions.
During the ceremony, vice chancellor Dr.
Talat Naseer Pasha expressed his apprecia-
LA MECCANICA: RESEARCH AND INNOVATION
tion of Bio-Vet and La Meccanica’s gift, say-
ing that it means a lot for the promotion of
research and the education of students on
the campus. Bio-Vet CEO Ahmed Waqas
praised the University of Veterinary and An-
imal Sciences in Lahore’s role in promoting
research and education. Roberto Reffo of La
Meccanica expressed a desire to build on
the partnership with the University and ex-
pand it into other areas.
Dr. Mustafa Kamal of the Pakistani Poultry
Association was also present on the occa-
sion, and underlined that the initiative has
an important contribution to make to the
growth of the country’s poultry industry.
LM SPACE
Where flavour has value
The socio-economic scenario has changed
radically over the past 10 years, and there
is now a need to identify and build the foun-
dations for re-launching the economy and
society.
New models based on innovative approach-
es and skills gained over years of experi-
ence, to be transferred, reworked, shared
and increased.
The manufacturing and metalworking in-
dustry needs skilled technicians. Inade-
quately and insufficient prepared for work
by a school system that remains distant from
the world of work, young people have dif-
ficulty finding employment and opportuni-
ties for career development. It is essential to
contribute by investing in on-going training
in areas of application directly integrated
into production, seeking to provide the ba-
sic skills and participatory network of knowl-
edge that is missing from the existing system
and helping to integrate young people into
the world of work. Aware of this, La Meccan-
ica srl has been investing in professional de-
velopment for years to maintain and boost
its own business, going so far as to create a
“corporate academy” where technicians are
trained and learn to train others effectively
(the “Training trainers” project).
This has led to a need to form a network of
acquired skills, transferring these “utilities” to
other companies.
Because being a business that works and
sells today is no longer a sufficient guaran-
tee of future growth; it’s also necessary to
ensure that the area where the enterprise is
located grows and establishes good interre-
lationships.
These ideas have given rise to LM Space: a
“fully equipped” space for sharing values,
competences, knowledge and plans with
an approach emphasising innovation and
creation of theme networks.
A Service Centre and Academy established
to create a “nursery” for young technicians,
useful and necessary for local industry.
LM Space serves the manufacturing industry
and builds its operations on four pillars:
Academy
Engineering
Digital Transformation
Marketing
LM Space is a response to the lack of tech-
nical know-how and a tool for the promo-
tion of on-going professional development in
SMEs, a place where people with different
skills can meet to talk and form a network
characterised by innovation and specialized
training.
It is an ACADEMY that conducts research
and experimentation in technical train-
ing programmes for the metalworking and
manufacturing industries and trains people
in engineering models and services aimed
at making participants’ projects real, con-
crete and feasible. Making skills and expe-
rience available in a synergic union with
new ideas and energies in enterprise in the
area through applied, concrete professional
services.
Training may be divided into three phases:
• aligning school background with the skills
the company requires
• in-depth study in specific areas
• comparison of experience.
It is a laboratory for ENGINEERING: a place
where consolidated experience and new
ideas join forces to study, develop and op-
timise for more competitive, innovative pro-
duction.
Working on engineering processes means
acting somewhere between design and pro-
duction, with professional skill and innova-
tive, sustainable solutions.
A laboratory for DIGITAL TRASFORMATION,
in which to redesign an enterprise’s business
proposal to make it more competitive and
relevant to the needs of the market using
digital technologies.
Integrated MARKETING services promoting
accessibility to the market and opening up
new horizons, partly through synergies with
new technologies and internationalization.
It is also a place for CO-WORKING offering
open workstations where people can share
skills and optimize resources.

La Meccanica: Over 50 Years of Innovation, Quality, Transparency and Responsibility

  • 1. >1 a tour of Cittadella featuring a walk around the city’s walls and visits to Palazzo Pretorio, the Ca- thedral and the Teatro Sociale. This is the company’s vision: we need to be will- ing to put ourselves on the line every day. A principle we have supported since 1961, when my father, Ottorino Reffo, founded a small busi- ness in Facca di Cittadella, in the province of Padua. And it’s still that way: the company’s technicians continue to work on new solutions, and are the first to want to try out the latest new cutting-edge plants. Customers who rely on La Meccanica know they can count on the most ad- vanced technologies at any time. This is because quality is La Meccanica’s strong point: in everything we do, we think like the sculptor who carves a statue out of a block of stone, with creativity and passion for his work; quality demonstrated by an efficient, complete 24-hour a day assistance service for our cus- tomers, one of our key strong points. One of the Group’s member companies, Lamec Italia, pro- vides assistance, maintenance and optimisation of mechanical systems, in addition to high pre- cision component manufacture with use of nu- merically controlled machinery and non-stop research into new generation tools and control systems. We are committed to serving our customers ev- ery day: La Meccanica can truly claim to have not customers but partners, listening to them at- tentively at all times and supporting them with reliable, dependable solutions that have led us to design and build more than 200 (?) different products over the years, each based on the cus- tomer’s own specific needs. The other key features of our approach are trans- parency, translating into an ability to gain our customers’ trust, now a strategic factor in the presence of growing uncertainty on the market, making trust an increasingly important factor. To boost this trust and therefore personal rela- tions with our customers and distributors, we not only make sure we get to know each other but have added to our incoming services to offer a complete, authentic overview of our company and its mission. Another key value is responsibility, a factor of particular importance to the Reffo family, who founded the Group, as they have always consid- ered “doing business” to be not only a matter of generating profit and value but a social mission with a great impact on people’s lives: from the team to consultants, from the local area to the community in which the enterprise is based. This responsibility translates into concrete proj- ects ranging from ongoing professional devel- opment to creation of a corporate academy for the development of technical skills to be imple- mented in a network with other companies in the area; from involvement in the schools, with organisation of educational programmes for the young (on-the-job training) and meetings with students and families; from groups of small enter- prises to implementation of innovative projects on the internet promoting the growth of the Reffo Group and sharing its benefits with the commu- nity. The latest of these is the “WelfareNet”, a corporate welfare project providing services to improve employees’ well-being in response to specific needs and requirements. Roberto Reffo La Meccanica CEO LA MECCANICA: A GUARANTEE OF INNOVATION, QUALITY, TRANSPARENCY AND RESPONSIBILITY FOR MORE THAN 50 YEARS One of the key features charac- terizing an enterprise is its system of values: the true foundations of growth and development. La Meccanica has not made any changes to these key pillars over half a century in business: innovation, a focus on the cus- tomer, quality, transparency and responsibility. Innovation has always been a challenge our company enjoys. A key feature of all our plants is a focus on new technologies and on the highest quality standards on the market. All results achieved represent a starting point for further improvement, to make another step for- ward. Study, research, and innovation are the keys to overcoming these difficulties and coming out of them even stronger. www.lameccanica.it Editorial 2015 LA MECCANICA OBTAINS IQ NET CERTIFICATION On November 25 2014 La Meccanica was award- ed IQ Net certification by Certiquality Quality Certification Institute “For better quality of life”. • 4. >4 The machine costs less than a double crum- bler, but offers the same or better perfor- mance, quality and efficiency. C1.350.CE CRUMBLER High performance at competitive prices The C1.350.CE crumbler was designed to boost the potential of La Meccanica’s range. The product maintains the productive ca- pacity of a double crumbler, with rollers measuring 250 mm in diameter and 1800 mm in length assembled on a system of springs that protects them against foreign matter that could enter during feeding. The distance between the rollers may be ad- justed between 0 and 3 mm with a servomo- tor, and their distance is monitored using a potentiometer connected with the screw for adjusting the distance between the rollers. One important benefit is belt transmission, which significantly cuts noise levels and im- proves the machine’s dependability over a conventional gear transmission, cutting the amount of time required for maintenance. One of the critical points for a machine’s functioning is entry of foreign matter in the feed; in the case of the C1.350.CE crumbler, the transmission allows the belts to slide, pre- venting interlocking problems and decreas- ing the probability of damage to the ma- chine in such an event. Moreover, a larger roller diameter and high engine power (37 kW) improve evacuation of foreign matter. The C1.350.CE crumbler is smaller in size than a double crumbler – an aspect that im- proves the ratio of hourly production to ma- chine bulk – and its frame has been made more rigid; the strength of the supports and use of top quality bearings guarantees high performance throughout the machine’s lifes- pan. THE CLM935 M-LG PELLET MILL Simplicity and strength for guaranteed high output La Meccanica designed the CLM 935 M-LG pellet mill to achieve extremely high output even with very difficult products. During testing in a wood pellet plant in the United States it achieved a productive capacity of 7.0 t/h. The CLM 935 LG can be used with engines up to 370 kW (500 Hp) and may be fitted with a conditioner 1830 mm or 2630 mm long, depending on the product being processed. Its principal fea- tures are sim- plicity and r o b u s t n e s s , allowing it to be used even with difficult m a t e r i a l s and inex- perienced operators. for these sectors. The product that has made the company famous all over the world is the pellet mill, a machine designed and built entirely in the plant in Cittadella, in the province of Pa- dova. One of the company’s strong points is preci- sion, quality and flexi- bility for customisation on the basis of specific requirements: La Meccanica has installed more than 1600 pellet mills in 40 countries all over the world. La Meccanica now pro- RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT IN PRODUCTS AND SERVICES CLM 1000 PELLET MILL Precision, quality and innovation acknowledged all over the world La Meccanica has produced livestock feed and biomass processing machinery and plants for more than 50 years, as well as supplying technical assistance and parts duces 12 different pellet mills ranging from 7.5 kW to 355 kW. • 5. >5 SANITATION Advanced technology for healthy feed Feed production must guarantee perfect hygiene at all stages in production, storage and transportation and absence of patho- gens. This is why the product is sanitized: a process offering a technical, physiological and nutritional guarantee. La Meccanica performs the process through hydrothermal treatment with prolonged conditioning. In this sanitation process, the product is preheated with steam in a ther- mal conditioner, then goes on to the SNF sanitizer, a container with double walls heat- ed with diathermic oil, in which preheated meal is kept for long enough to eliminate all heat-sensitive pathogenic components. Control of speed and permanence and high thermal inertia of the oil mass allows the system to permit constant, precise control of heat treatment parameters. All parts in con- tact with raw materials, including the shafts and paddles of the thermal conditioner, the sanitizer shaft and coil, connecting pipes and screw feeders, are made of stainless steel to eliminate corrosion and minimize risk of product contamination. Conditioning can increase the productivity of the press by up to 15% as well as improving pellet durability. This achieves 3 goals: eliminating salmo- nella, gelatinizing starch and sanitizing the product. ALL THE SECRETS OF THE OPEN AREA The open area is the percentage represent- ing the ratio between the open surface of the extruder (holes) and the total surface of the work area: number of holes X area of each hole / width of the perforated strip X internal diameter of the extruder X Π The greater the percentage of open area, the greater productivity will be, calculated as follows: percentage of open area X specific weight of product to be processed = productivity index Is productivity directly proportionate to the “open” surface of an extruder? To produce more, should an extruder have as little material as possible between holes? Generally speaking, a greater open area means greater productivity, but the answer is not as simple and obvious as it may seem. A whole series of factors go into play during production which must not be underestimat- ed: • type of product to be pelletized • preparation of raw material • mechanical factors • grid of holes Type of product to be pelletized: there are feeds that are “easy” to pelletize, such as poultry feed. For this type of feed, which has a low fibre content, a few extra rows of holes are often required, with less space between holes: this is the case of “high density” extruders, which do not require a lot of force, and so an extruder with a large open area can withstand the force applied to it without breaking. Then there are feeds that are “difficult” to pelletize, such as straw or hay, which contain a very large amount of fibre. In this case “low density” extruders are used, with more space between holes and therefore a smaller open area; in many cases the working area of the extruder is smaller, to reduce force and therefore risk of breakage. Lastly, “standard density” extrud- ers are used with “generic” materials that do not contain a high percentage of fibre and represent a good compromise between open area and extruder strength. Preparation of raw materials: one factor that should not be underestimat- ed is how the raw materials have been pre- pared. In some cases we have found that coarsely ground raw materials work better with extruders that have a smaller open area. The reason is that the steel between the holes somehow grinds the product a lit- tle, preventing large pieces of material from going through the holes and obstructing pas- sage, and thereby increasing productivity. Mechanical strength factors: perhaps the most delicate factor to be tak- en into consideration when deciding on the open area of an extruder. Always remem- ber that an extruder is a piece of steel that has undergone processes (such as lathing and perforation) which “weaken” it and heat treatments (such as vacuum tempering) that harden it. After all these production process- es, we have an extruder representing the right compromise between hardness (resis- tance to deformation of its original shape) and fragility (resistance to breakage once it has been deformed from its original shape). This good compromise, which we define as a hardness of 52-54HRC after heat treatment, may be lost if more holes than the standard are made, weakening the material and in- creasing risk of breakage. The only way to get around this is to make the extruder less hard, with a value below 52HRC, but while less likely to break, an extruder of this type would get worn faster. Taking all these factors into consideration, might we say that a larger open area means greater productivity? The answer is yes, but only if the raw material has been prepared correctly, otherwise there is a risk of decreas- ing productivity, and only if the formula has a low fibre content, because otherwise you will be able to produce more, but only brief- ly, as the extruder will end up breaking. In addition to the greater risk of breaking the extruder, we must take into account faster wear and tear, and calculate whether the additional production that may be obtained with a larger open area will compensate the greater cost due to faster wear of the extrud- er and shutdowns to change it.

The three parties will also cooperate on organisa- tion of seminars, workshops and exhibitions. During the ceremony, vice chancellor Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha expressed his apprecia- LA MECCANICA: RESEARCH AND INNOVATION tion of Bio-Vet and La Meccanica’s gift, say- ing that it means a lot for the promotion of research and the education of students on the campus. Bio-Vet CEO Ahmed Waqas praised the University of Veterinary and An- imal Sciences in Lahore’s role in promoting research and education. Roberto Reffo of La Meccanica expressed a desire to build on the partnership with the University and ex- pand it into other areas. Dr. Mustafa Kamal of the Pakistani Poultry Association was also present on the occa- sion, and underlined that the initiative has an important contribution to make to the growth of the country’s poultry industry. LM SPACE Where flavour has value The socio-economic scenario has changed radically over the past 10 years, and there is now a need to identify and build the foun- dations for re-launching the economy and society. New models based on innovative approach- es and skills gained over years of experi- ence, to be transferred, reworked, shared and increased. The manufacturing and metalworking in- dustry needs skilled technicians. Inade- quately and insufficient prepared for work by a school system that remains distant from the world of work, young people have dif- ficulty finding employment and opportuni- ties for career development. It is essential to contribute by investing in on-going training in areas of application directly integrated into production, seeking to provide the ba- sic skills and participatory network of knowl- edge that is missing from the existing system and helping to integrate young people into the world of work. Aware of this, La Meccan- ica srl has been investing in professional de- velopment for years to maintain and boost its own business, going so far as to create a “corporate academy” where technicians are trained and learn to train others effectively (the “Training trainers” project). This has led to a need to form a network of acquired skills, transferring these “utilities” to other companies. Because being a business that works and sells today is no longer a sufficient guaran- tee of future growth; it’s also necessary to ensure that the area where the enterprise is located grows and establishes good interre- lationships. These ideas have given rise to LM Space: a “fully equipped” space for sharing values, competences, knowledge and plans with an approach emphasising innovation and creation of theme networks. A Service Centre and Academy established to create a “nursery” for young technicians, useful and necessary for local industry. LM Space serves the manufacturing industry and builds its operations on four pillars: Academy Engineering Digital Transformation Marketing LM Space is a response to the lack of tech- nical know-how and a tool for the promo- tion of on-going professional development in SMEs, a place where people with different skills can meet to talk and form a network characterised by innovation and specialized training. It is an ACADEMY that conducts research and experimentation in technical train- ing programmes for the metalworking and manufacturing industries and trains people in engineering models and services aimed at making participants’ projects real, con- crete and feasible. Making skills and expe- rience available in a synergic union with new ideas and energies in enterprise in the area through applied, concrete professional services. Training may be divided into three phases: • aligning school background with the skills the company requires • in-depth study in specific areas • comparison of experience. It is a laboratory for ENGINEERING: a place where consolidated experience and new ideas join forces to study, develop and op- timise for more competitive, innovative pro- duction. Working on engineering processes means acting somewhere between design and pro- duction, with professional skill and innova- tive, sustainable solutions. A laboratory for DIGITAL TRASFORMATION, in which to redesign an enterprise’s business proposal to make it more competitive and relevant to the needs of the market using digital technologies. Integrated MARKETING services promoting accessibility to the market and opening up new horizons, partly through synergies with new technologies and internationalization. It is also a place for CO-WORKING offering open workstations where people can share skills and optimize resources.
