High School Graduation and Acceptance to Centennial College
1. High School Graduation
In June 2012, I graduated from Francis
Libermann Catholic high school. In order
to graduate, I needed to obtain 30 credits
within a 4 year period, along with the
completion of the Ontario Secondary
School Literacy Test. There were many
difficult courses I encountered that I had
to overcome. My greatest difficulty was
taking 3 years worth of math courses,
which provided me with logical thinking
skills. My goal before going into high
school was to graduate on time without
failing any courses. In order to achieve
this goal I had to focus and study hard in
every course that I took. I had to spend
long hours studying for mid terms, finals,
along with all of the other evaluations. I
demonstrated my ability to stay focused
and my ability to take initiative. The result
that came from this was a successful pass
on the Literacy Test, the grade 11 English
award, a business studies certificate for
completing 4 business electives, and
finally, my high school diploma. This
provided me with the requirements in
order to attend Centennial College in Fall,
2012.
2. Accepted To Centennial
College for the Business
Administration Program
In February of 2012, I was enrolled in
high school and wanted to study
business in a post- secondary school. I
applied to Centennial College’s
Business Administration 3 year
program. In order to get accepted, I
needed to have my grade 11 college
math credit, and my grade 12 english
credit. I also needed to obtain my
Ontario secondary school diploma. I
took action by obtaining my diploma,
along with all of the credits that were
needed to get accepted to the
program. I was determined and
demonstrated my innovation skills. As
a result of my actions, I was accepted
to Centennial College and am currently
enrolled in Business Administration.
This will develop the skills and
knowledge needed for me to have a
successful career in business.
3. Attended 3-day Business
Leadership Conference
In April, 2012, I was determined to attend
a 3- day business leadership
conference/camp at Claremont Rotisserie
club, located in Ajax, Ontario. In order to
attend this conference, participants had
to be motivated business students within
their high school. Representatives from
schools all over Toronto attended this
conference. The days consisted of games
and challenges that were business
related. There was a comprehensive
simulation on how to manage the day-to-
day operations of a company, which
involved me getting into a team, with
students from other schools. Our goal
was to win the competition by generating
the most profit for our business. I had to
take initiative, demonstrate leadership
skills, organizational skills, interpersonal
skills, innovation skills, and team work
skills. My team was successful and ended
up winning the competition. There were
also a number of CEO guest speakers who
talked about their careers and what it
takes to be successful. Through attending
this conference, I was able to
demonstrate many different skills, mainly
teamwork. It also Inspired me to pursue a
career as an entrepreneur.
4. First Full- Time Summer
job
Throughout this current year, I have been
job searching for a summer position. I
wanted to make an income to help pay
for my college tuition. I went on the
website of the Toronto Zoo and noticed
that they were hiring for summer
positions. In order to get hired at the
Toronto Zoo, applicants have to be
motivated, organized, and able to work in
a team. I decided to apply for a custodial
position in March 2013. In April 2013, I
was contacted to come in for an
interview. To prepare for this interview, I
had to apply my research skills to look for
frequently asked interview questions. I
also had to go over my skills, and figure
out how I will present them to the
employer if I am asked. I also thought
about situational questions that I could
be asked. I was determined when I
applied for this job and had to take
initiative. As a result of my actions, along
with my preparation for my interview, I
was hired for a full- time position for
custodial at the Toronto Zoo. This has also
made me learn how to properly prepare
for an interview and how to stay
motivated which, will better prepare me
for any future interviews that I may have.
5. Saved money to purchase
a MacBook Air
In February of 2012, when I was
accepted to Centennial College. I
decided that I would need a laptop for
all of my school work. I was very
determined to acquire a MacBook Air. I
was aware that the price was $1200
and I was willing to save everything
that I earned from my part time job in
order to be able to afford it. I decided
to set up a savings bank account
where I could deposit all of my income
until it accumulated to $1200. I had to
stay highly motivated, as I was
tempted to spend money throughout
my saving period. I also had to
demonstrate innovation and initiative,
along with my knowledge of saving
and investing. It took a lot of hard
work, and many saved paychecks. As a
result of my actions and my
motivation, I was able to accumulate
enough money to purchase my
MacBook Air, which I now use for my
college courses.
