Kristen Coogan is pursuing an MS in Organizational and Professional Communication at Regis University. For her communication practicum, she reached out to her former director at Framingham State University's Career Services & Employer Relations office where she had previously interned in event planning and marketing. As an undergraduate studying communication, Kristen chose a general course of study over concentrating in a specific area so as to keep her options open, which allowed her to later pursue graduate school which she now sees as an important career opportunity.

MS in Organizational and Professional Communication Student at Regis
For my communication practicum/internship I reached out to my past director in Career Services
& Employer Relations (CSER) at Framingham State University. In my undergraduate career, I
worked there as an event planner and marketing coordinator for my internship. I also worked as a
social media intern for the Admissions office that same semester.
As an undergraduate I also studied communication and I chose to not concentrate in anything
because I wanted to keep my options open. I am so glad I did that because otherwise I’d
probably be in an office at a design job working with Photoshop all day and I would not be as
happy as I am in my current position and I would not know that applying to graduate school was
even an option for me. I feel communication is crucial to everyone’s job. Without successful
communication you do not have a positive and effective work environment, things would not be
done correctly due to no communication or miscommunication, and personally, students
probably would not be able to talk to me about their involvement in school, their personal lives
or anything for that matter. Communication is key. I also believe that writing is a strong aspect in
most jobs and writing is something I’ve always been good at. That is why I am earning a
certificate in Professional Writing for New Media. I am also earning a certificate in Health
Communication because I feel it is important, at least in my personal career, to know important
aspects of today’s health issues if I will be around students frequently in a position in higher
education.
