POTENTIAL HR NEWS OUTLETS
BY: KOMAL PATEL AND BITRUS AUDU
PURPOSE
 Consider effectiveness of current and alternative communication mediums for
Human Resources information.
 Possible outlets include social media, print, targeted e-mails, and others.
 A recent survey provided an employee perspective of how employees receive
current Human Resources information as well as their preferred medium to
receive HR news.

RESULTS – SOCIAL MEDIA
 Facebook
 68% of respondents use Facebook as a source of entertainment and/or connecting with family and friends.
 48% said they use Facebook 8 or more times during any given week.
 18% stated Facebook as their preferred news outlet if they were to receive HR news via social media.
 Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube
 The survey revealed that usage in these forms of media were minimal and of those users, primarily for
entertainment purposes.
 Not recommended
RESULTS – LINKEDIN
 LinkedIn
 74% of respondents said they have used LinkedIn.
 82% of the users admit to “using” LinkedIn only 1-3 times a week.

 Barely 20% of respondents preferred hard-copy printed news to be delivered at either their
home or workplace.
 Targeted E-mails & e-Inside
 74% preferred targeted e-mails as a medium for HR news.
 32% would like to receive HR news through e-Inside

 Remind101
 Quick, short, one-way broadcast texts sent out to everyone’s phone
 Can be used to remind users of an upcoming event
 Highest probability for views of messages when compared to other mediums
 Originally meant for teachers to be able to remind their students of upcoming deadlines but can be used by
anyone

 A great alternative to social media that takes advantage of a new trend in communication
