It is the process through which
people learn to understand the
societal norms, expectations and
values as members of society.
Society is different from culture.
There are many cultures within a
society. While members of
society share many of the same
expectations and experiences,
the cultural groups create ones
that differentiate them from
others in society.

• Philippine society
• consists of people or members
• formally teaches people, upon birth, how to be good members of society through education,
laws, and norms
• example: A girl learns her fundamental right as a member of society.
• Takes place through more specific training and instruction
• The goal is to control society.

Identity formation is the development of an
individual’s distinct personality by which he or she
is recognized or known.
Personality is a complex blend of a constantly evolving and
changing pattern of one’s unique behaviour, emerged as a result of
one’s interaction with one’s environment and directed towards some
specific ends.
