Instructional Strategies Cooperative Learning
Cooperative Learning A grouping strategy in which students work together to benefit each other’s learning potential
Successful Cooperative Learning Group Essentials Members are part of a “team” Interactive engagement Individual and group accountability Interpersonal and leadership skills Reflection  Personal learning Group function

Limitations Size limitation Potential overuse Group member limitation
Integration TEKS 12.15.D  	Students are expected to: Produce a multimedia presentation with graphics, images, and sound that appeals to a specific audience and synthesizes information from multiple points of view
Integration Following the completion of William Golding’s Lord of the Flies, the teacher will divide the class into three groups of seven. Each group will create a video according to one of the following three hypothetical situations:
Integration A video of the scene in which Piggy was murdered A video of a newscast reporting the plane crash, life on the island according to the survivors, and the rescue A video of a mock trial in which Jack is accused of murder
Integration Evaluate and Revise Students will be able to: Evaluate fellow students’ abilities to analyze and synthesize information gained from the novel Offer peer editing and respond with group revisions
Summary Cooperative learning as a teaching strategy:  utilizes students’ best skills in a non-threatening environment to enhance acquisition of the material.  better prepares students for “real world” situations in which skills in collaboration are fundamental for success in future employment
