2. GRAND THEFT AUTO
• Grand Theft Auto is an action adventure game, developed
by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games.
Within the games first three days of release it hit $1
Billion. Setting an unbeatable record. Grand Theft Auto
series is made up of 13 games, all on different platforms,
for example, Grand Theft Auto Advanced was released on
Gameboy and can not be played on Xbox and PS4.
3. GAME WORLD
• Grand Theft Auto V is set in the imagery world of “Los
Santos”, this world has all of the three elements that make a
top rated game world. Terrain, Objects and Architecture. The
terrain is the surface that your character walks on throughout
the game, the three characters within Grand Theft Auto walk
on the streets of Los Santos. Throughout the game there’s
objects that you can pick up, vehicles that you can enter and
drive. There is also a lot of architecture throughout the game
also, buildings and trees. As far as the “Game world” goes,
this game has so much to offer. When exploring this map you
will find that this game has included very ”real life” situations,
for example you will see homeless people, side missions
where you have to get back a women's bag from a thief.
These are all elements of real life.
4. PERSPECTIVE
Grand Theft Auto V is a third person action adventure game, with it being a
third person game, this means that it will be visualized on screen different
compared to, side scrolling, first person and ariel view. Third person allows you
to see all of the character from certain angles, but for the majority of the time
you will see the back of the character while playing. The very first Grand Theft
Auto was produced in ariel view, as years have gone on the games graphics
and prospective have changed dramatically. Also because you can choose
between three characters, this means that you will get a very different
perspective and outlook depending on what character you pick, as they all
have a different stories. Grand Theft Auto V has very clear and sharp graphics,
this game is 3D at its finest.
5. GAME SETTING
The game setting within Grand Theft Auto, is has strong elements of realism I
think, for example the city Los Santos, is a perfect representation of a city in
real life. Los Santos is very different compared to any city that Grand Theft
Auto have created before, a lot more detail has gone in to the graphics, it is a
lot more open and there are more places to explore and discover than before.
Also the game has realistic time setting, the game also has different weather
settings, this adds an even more realistic theme to the game.
6. AVATAR
The avatar within Grand Theft Auto, are the three characters that you can pick throughout
the game, but the avatar can be as simple as the car that your character gets in to, the
game allows you to explore and change different elements of your character, for example
you change the clothes of your character and allow them to wear almost anything, also
you can customize your characters hair, cut it and shape it to however you want. Also
you are not limited to what vehicles you can drive around in, you can enter almost
anything, from boats, cars, planes, fire engines, tanks and many more. This game also
allows you to free roam and do almost anything you want.
7. GAME TYPE
You have two different game types, single player and multi player. Grand
Theft Auto is single player, although the game has an online mode, this
allows you to play with friends in multi player. Grand Theft Auto works best
being a single player game, as I feel becomes more intimate between the
character and player, also the missions throughout the game are single
player
8. NARRATIVE
Grand Theft Auto is famous partly for its storyline and general plot, the narrative for Grand
Theft Auto 5 is very different compared to any game narrative I have seen before, this is
because you have three different characters to pick from, each character has a different
story. If you look at all of the different Grand Theft Auto games you will see they all have
similar elements within the storyline, for example they all have some form of drug use,
violent behavior and explicit language. There are a lot of elements that go in to Grand Theft
Auto’s storyline and narrative, these elements are, target group, and demographic. The
narrative within this game is very much moveable, the player has an element of control over
the storyline, for example they might decide to do one mission, but after that they may
decide to get themselves in a different situation, for example go on a rampage, get the
police on them and then this in a way opens up a new storyline.
9. REWARDS
Throughout the Grand Theft Auto game series, there have always been a
number of different rewards as you go through the game. In Grand Theft Auto
V this is no exception, I’d say there are more rewards and achievements in this
game compared to other ones, for example you have to do missions to unlock
all three characters, this in its own way is a reward. Another example of this
would be if you complete the game you get the achievement “ Career Criminal”
and if you complete all the rampages you get the achievement “Red Mist” there
are large number of achievements and trophies that you can get. I think this is
just another reason to why the Grand Theft Auto series is such a massive hit
globally.
10. GAMING ADDICTION
On 2th January 2018, BBC News published an article, that Gaming addiction has been
classified as a disorder by World Health Origination. The organization have for the first
time listed it as a mental health condition,
Symptoms Include:
Impaired control over gaming (frequency, intensity, duration)
Increased priority given to gaming
Continuation or escalation of gaming despite negative consequences
Research conducted looking at children aged between 8-18 showed that boys spend
longer playing video games than girls.
Looking at the game I have chosen and also looking at information about gaming
addiction, I can see how Grand Theft Auto V would be very addictive, given the amount of
achievements and trophies there is to unlock. Also because of how large the map is,
there is so much to explore. Also at times it can become very competitive, for example
you can find a good place to cover yourself and go on a rampage for hours and get lost in
the excitement.

12. GAMES USE OF AUDIO
Looking at Grand Theft Auto, I have seen that they use a lot of different sounds and
sound effects throughout the game, an example of these would be, people
speaking, gun shots, vehicle sounds, looking at this you can definitely see that this
is one of the many reasons why this game is so highly rated. Also I will be taking
inspiration from all of the different sound effects used within the game when I come
to produce my own. The sound effects used are so realistic and I think it again,
makes the the player feel more in touch with the character and game in general.
Another element I have found is that, when you get in to any vehicle the radio
automatically turns one, and you get the choice of a number of different stations
with all different types of genres of music. An example of this would be, if you get
in to a truck country music usually start playing, you are free to change the station
at any time though. If you get in to a sports car hip hop music usually starts playing
13. GRAPHIC COMPARISON
Looking at Grand Theft Auto and Grand Theft Auto 1, they are both set in cites, and they both have
completely different layouts, looking at the first Grand Theft Auto and then comparing it to Grand
Theft Auto V it’s clear to see how far the graphics have come in recent years. 1 is very pixelated and
blurry, where V is very clear and realistic. Looking at a general comparison the layout is different in 1
compared to V. Also the sounds, music and general effects in V are completely different compared to

14. GRAPHIC COMPARISON
After looking at these two front cover, I have seen a dramatic change in the graphics,
throughout the years. There are a lot of differences when is comes to these front
covers, for example the colours used in 1 are completely different to the colours
used in V, 1 looks as if it would fit in with a mobile game, they have gone with a
strong vibrant orange and yellow coloured font, the background image is blurry and
pixelated. It is no where near as realistic as V, although they have incorporated the
most wanted stars, they indicate authority. The vibrant coloured flame indicates
speed, I can also see an image of a number of vehicles.

You can purchase Grand Theft Auto V on a number of different game consoles
and also PC.
