4. Female Worker: A female persons whose occupation is
making or repairing sewing and altering
garment or dress
Security Hazards: It includes poor physical, mental and socio
economic security like low wages , narrow
stair, mandatory overtime working ,No
maternity leave facilities ,dirty work place ,
unsafe drinking Water, no separate toilet
facilities etc.
5. Objectives:
Identify the major security hazards of female workers
in garment industry
Explain the causes of these security hazards
Find out the measures to ensure the security of
female workers
Recommendation work for the betterment of female
workers in garment industry
6. Contribution of women in garment industry:
Huge participation: Currently, around 4 million workers are
working in this sector of whom 80% are female.
Working as cheap labour: The salary of female worker is
cheaper in our country than another countries, like China,
India etc.
Long-time "Overtime": In the garments factory the female
workers work 9-10 hours per day as a duty. They also take
3/4/5 hours overtime to fill the demand of the owner.

Labour Law:
★Section-6 : According to this section every garment industry has to provide a
service book for it's workers which will include worker's name & parent's name ,
date of birth , address , photograph.
★Section 45, 46 (Maternity welfare facility) : This section of labour law is very
important to my presentation topic , that means for female garments workers.
Employers are liable to provide maternity benefits to the employees who have
completed at least 6 months of service with the employer by the date of
confinement.The working mothers in public & private sector are supposed to get
maternity leave for 6 months.
8. ★Section 52 (Ventilation & Temperature) : According to this section...
# Effective measures shall be undertaken in every establishment for securing &
maintaining every work room adequate ventilation by the circulation of fresh air.
# Temperature in every room shall be kept in a comfortable & healthy situation for
the workers.
★Section - 54 (Waste disposal services) : According to this section arrangements
shall be made in every establishment for the disposal of waste due to the
manufacturing process carried on their in. In that case factory should be situated
place where no public sewerage system exists.
★Section-55 (Overcrowding) : The labour act prevent overcrowding by maintaining
a specific cubic area for each workers in any establishment.
# No work room in any establishment shall be overcrowded.
# At least 9.5 cubic meters of spaces for every worker employed in a workroom
shall be provided.
9. ★Section-58 (Drinking Water): According to this section ,
# Every establishment must ensure the adequate supply of pure drinking water
& maintain at a suitable point for all workers employed there.
# All such point shall be clearly marked "Drinking Water" in Bengali language.
★Section-59 (Latrines & Urinals) :
# In every establishment sufficient latrines & urinals of prescribed types shall
be provided to workers at all time in the workplace.
# In every establishment latrines & urinals shall be provided separately for male
& female workers.
# The latrines shall be adequate lighted , ventilated , Cleaned & supplied with
water all time.
13. Security Hazard:
Facing harassment by Their co- workers.

Health hazards.
Maternity leave.
Safe food and pure drinking water.
Job Security.
Transportation system.
14. Causes:
Men cantered perspective.
Owner's extra margin of profit.
Women are vulnerable in our society.
Maternity leave.
Lack of awareness, education and
Knowledge.
Lack of proper skills of work.
Lack of social security.
15. Recommendation:
Providing enough salary for their work.
There should be a medical team and environment
friendly work place.
They should obey government rules and regulations for
maternity leave. (16 weeks).
Providing safe food and pure water facilities.

17. Conclusion:
After all discussion we can say that there are large number of people of
Bangladesh working in garment sector and most of them are female. Poor
work place safety is one of the issues Bangladesh garment factory in facing
for a long period of time. The current seminar paper presentation studied
the contemporary safety problem of female worker of the garment industry
at their work place. This study found safety hazards in the garments factory
The causes ranges from lack of safety measures for examples fire safety and
personal safety to disorganised worker. To solve the issues all the parties
related to the industry, employee, employer and government have to work
together from their perspective
