COMPANY PROFILE <ul><li>Usha Martin Ltd was started in 1961 in Ranchi, </li></ul><ul><li>as a wire rope manufacturing company. </li></ul><ul><li>Now it is India's largest & world’s second </li></ul><ul><li>largest steel wire rope manufacturer. </li></ul><ul><li>MD of UML is Mr. Rajiv Jhawar. </li></ul><ul><li>Chairman of UML is Mr. Prasant Jhawar. </li></ul><ul><li>Total 1900 employees are working in UML, </li></ul><ul><li>in which 1500 are workers, 82 are staff and </li></ul><ul><li>318 are officers. </li></ul>Different types of wire ropes

OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT <ul><li>To know how many workers are aware about labour welfare facilities. </li></ul><ul><li>To study the welfare facilities provided to the workers by the company. </li></ul><ul><li>To study the grievance of workers regarding welfare facilities. </li></ul><ul><li>To know the level of satisfaction of workers toward welfare facilities. </li></ul>

LABOUR WELFARE <ul><li>“ every organization hears what employees say, good organization listen to what employees have to say but organization with employees welfare scheme listen what employees don’t say ” </li></ul><ul><li>Labour welfare is a comprehensive term including various services, benefits, facilities which is provided over and above the wages to the workers by employers. </li></ul><ul><li>It is provided by the government, trade union & non government agencies in addition to the employers. </li></ul>

FINDING <ul><li>About 70% of the works are aware about labour welfare facility provided by the company. </li></ul><ul><li>Company provide all the basic facilities like uniform, medical, safe drinking water, good working environment, transportation, canteen, children education etc. </li></ul><ul><li>56% of workers are not satisfied with the scheme of getting Rs 1,00,000 to the nominees, after death of the worker while working in the company. </li></ul><ul><li>Almost all the workers are getting safety gadget like gloves, shoes, glasses, helmet, uniform, mask and eardrum. </li></ul><ul><li>36% of workers have grievance related to working condition, 53% have grievance in allowances, 29% have in canteen and 51% have grievance related to holiday. </li></ul><ul><li>70% of workers said that welfare facilities which are provided to them play as motivational factor. </li></ul><ul><li>29% of workers are satisfied with the welfare facilities provided to them while 53% are partly satisfied and 17% are not satisfied. </li></ul><ul><li>There is positive correlation between awareness about labour welfare and motivational factors. </li></ul>

LIMITATION <ul><li>Sometime some of the workers refuse to corporate. </li></ul><ul><li>The working schedule of the workers often contradicted with the survey requirement. </li></ul><ul><li>The survey was time consuming due to the lack of knowledge of workers about welfare facilities. </li></ul>

SUGGESTION <ul><li>As per the factory act 1948, there should be a rest room with adequate lighting facility, proper ventilation and sitting arrangement should be there in rest room. </li></ul><ul><li>To increase the awareness about welfare facilities, proper training should be given to all the workers. </li></ul><ul><li>Allowances for education & housing should increase. </li></ul><ul><li>Recreational activities like sports & cultural activities should re-start. </li></ul><ul><li>Some new book should be introduce in library so that workers can update their knowledge, as well as proper lighting and sitting arrangement should be there in library. </li></ul>
  17. 17. CONT…. <ul><li>Housing facility should be provided to each and every worker. </li></ul><ul><li>On the death of any workers, while working Rs 1,00,000 is given to the nominees; it should be increase according to economic scenario, where common people are affected by inflation. </li></ul><ul><li>Some more facilities should be introduced like interest free loan for workers to purchase household goods. </li></ul><ul><li>Company should try to open holiday homes in Nainital, Darjeeling etc where workers can stay with their family at reasonable rates . </li></ul><ul><li>The interaction between workers & management should improve. </li></ul><ul><li>More Holiday should be given to the workers. </li></ul>
