2. Using the Diffbot Knowledge Graph*, we identified 2.5 million records
identified as skills within the population of the EU
To break that down, below are the overall EU counts for each category.
Note - one person can have, and account for, multiple skills below:
● Machine Learning 126,258
● Software Development 1,353,852
● Cloud Computing 901,873
● Artificial Intelligence 46,509
● Natural Language Processing 51,254
● Data Science 12,303
* The Diffbot Knowledge Graph is a fully autonomous, AI-curated and structured
database of all of the public knowledge on the Web: more than 1 trillion facts and 10
billion entities. This represents a repository of knowledge that is significantly larger than
the Google Knowledge Graph, and growing every day.
3. Raw Count Ranking in EU: When considering just the raw
count of talent across the EU, the UK is the clear winner, with
France a distant 2nd, and Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands
in a close race for 3rd

for Artificial Intelligence (while sitting
at or near the top of every other list).
Italy and Cyprus are also surprises near
the top.
Overall, the lowest point for this gap is
slightly higher than most other
categories (roughly an 83% / 17% M/F

Processing
Gender Gap:
The population with the skill
“natural language processing”
seems dramatically more gender
diverse than any of the other fields
in this report, with some countries
(Netherlands, Denmark, and the
UK) actually showing a significant
lean towards women with the skill.
It’s not immediately clear why this
skill is so differently represented...

Denmark -18.09%
United Kingdom -6.88%
Luxembourg 5.05%
Ireland 6.03%
Spain 22.03%

22. Data Science: Finally, Data Science is the only category
where Germany leads in overall count and bests the UK in
our Blended ranking. Luxembourg, frequently at the top of
“per capita”, also makes its first blended top 10.
