2. WHO?
The Scandinavian Cultural Center, through the Scandinavian Charitable Society of Boston,
is committed to positioning itself as the premiere hub for Nordic cultural activities in New
England by sharing important elements of Scandinavian culture with the wider community.
The goal of the Scandinavian Cultural Center is to be a location for and source of enriching
and thought-provoking events for residents of Newton, greater Boston, and beyond. These
goals are achieved through collaborations with other organizations, and through the
Cultural Center’s own programs.
The Scandinavian Charitable Society is a Massachusetts 501(c)(3) status organization which
puts on the Smörgåsbord Nordic Food Festival.
WHAT?
The Smörgåsbord Nordic Food Festival is New England’s only event of its kind. Highlights
include tasting stations from Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, Finland and Norway, Nordic ven-
dors, live-music, guest speakers, kids’ stations, family-friendly games, a live Viking encamp-
ment, and more “foodie” fun!
WHY?
Using food as a universal and inviting cultural gateway, the SCC’s vision is to continue rais-
ing the visibility of our unique and vibrant cultural center and our event partners within the
Greater Boston community.
