I had the pleasure of managing Kerrin Hughes during her 2015 Summer Internship within TripAdvisor’s
Accounting & Finance Department. During this time, I challenged her with a variety of tasks and projects that
were above and beyond the normal scope of what an intern would do for a very simple reason; there was
nothing she couldn’t handle. She was able to complete daily tasks with precision (such as Payment
Application or Partner Reconciliations) and demonstrate critical thinking on bigger projects (conducted
primary research around AR, and presented her findings to the Director of Revenue, in order to highlight key
gaps and opportunities). Kerrin also exhibited the ability to effectively communicate internally and externally
to resolve various issues. I would like to stress her maturity given her age; it was very easy to forget she was
only 19.
Lastly, upon Kerrin’s departure our team realized the full impact she had on our team and had to hire
temporary (and ultimately permanent) help to keep us functioning at the same level.
Given the overwhelmingly positive experience I had with Kerrin, I would recommend her consideration for
any position regardless of the relevance of the position to her major. Ordinarily,I wouldn’t make that claim
but I think it’s an important designation that she exceeded expectations in an internship that is outside the
