magment of DNA is in the peocem of heing trameribed by a single RNA pellyanase molecule
and the transcription is tecing translated simimitaneously by a singhe ribonome? 1. Draw a
simgle lim diagran illestrating the condiguration of the molecuhs imvived in this jeooses the

translation involves a sequence of steps that, in prokaryotes, are coordinated with the process of
transcription. One way of understanding the transcription/translation process is by visualizing it
as a series of stages, much as individual frames in a film represent different stages in its
progression. Suppose that a single segment of DNA is in the process of being transcribed by a
single RNA polymerase molecule and the transcription is being translated simultaneously by a
single ribosome. 1 1. Draw a simple line diagram illustrating the configuration of the molecules
involved in this process: the DNA, RNA, and polypeptide molecules, the RNA polymerase, and
the ribosome. Be sure to identify the orientation of all polymers, and the direction of movement
of the polymerase and ribosome. 2. Redraw the diagram with greater detail in the region of the
RNA polymerase and the ribosome. It shall be a snapshot image of a moment in the midst of the
transcription/translation process. Clearly illustrate the following, and include the orientation of
all polymers and direction of movement of the polymerase and ribosome. (a) RNA polymerase
region: 2 - The identity of seven deoxyribonucleotides in both strands of the DNA. Include the
nucleotide corresponding to the 3 end of the transcript and three on either side. The remainder of
the molecules shall be represented by lines. - The identity of the four nucleotides at the 3 end of
the transcript; the remainder of the molecule shall be represented by lines. (b) Ribosome region:
3 - The three (peptidyl, aminoacyl, and exit) sites in the ribosome. - The molecules (if any)
associated with the three sites in the ribosome. - The identity of anticodon nucleotides for tRNAs
in the ribosome; other portions of the tRNAs shall be represented by lines. - The identity of any
amino acids bound to tRNAs, including the first and second from the carboxyl terminus of the
polypeptide; the remainder of the polypeptide shall be represented by a line. - The identity of the
ribonucleotides in the transcript for four codons: those bound to the tRNAs, and one codon to
each side of those. Other portions of the transcript shall be represented by lines. 3. Redraw your
previous, detailed, diagram after enough time has passed that the following has occurred: - The
RNA polymerase has moved one nucleotide along the DNA. - The ribosome has moved one
codon along the transcript, but is otherwise at a similar stage of the translation process.

Suppone that a single magment of DNA is in the peocem of heing trameribed by a single RNA pellyanase molecule and the transcription is tecing translated simimitaneously by a singhe ribonome? 1. The process of translation involves a sequence of steps that, in prokaryotes, are coordinated with the process of transcription. One way of understanding the transcription/translation process is by visualizing it as a series of stages, much as individual frames in a film represent different stages in its progression. Suppose that a single segment of DNA is in the process of being transcribed by a single RNA polymerase molecule and the transcription is being translated simultaneously by a single ribosome. 1 1. Draw a simple line diagram illustrating the configuration of the molecules involved in this process: the DNA, RNA, and polypeptide molecules, the RNA polymerase, and the ribosome. Be sure to identify the orientation of all polymers, and the direction of movement of the polymerase and ribosome. 2. Redraw the diagram with greater detail in the region of the RNA polymerase and the ribosome. It shall be a snapshot image of a moment in the midst of the transcription/translation process. Clearly illustrate the following, and include the orientation of all polymers and direction of movement of the polymerase and ribosome. (a) RNA polymerase region: 2 - The identity of seven deoxyribonucleotides in both strands of the DNA. Include the nucleotide corresponding to the 3 end of the transcript and three on either side. The remainder of the molecules shall be represented by lines. - The identity of the four nucleotides at the 3 end of the transcript; the remainder of the molecule shall be represented by lines. (b) Ribosome region: 3 - The three (peptidyl, aminoacyl, and exit) sites in the ribosome. - The molecules (if any) associated with the three sites in the ribosome. - The identity of anticodon nucleotides for tRNAs in the ribosome; other portions of the tRNAs shall be represented by lines. - The identity of any amino acids bound to tRNAs, including the first and second from the carboxyl terminus of the polypeptide; the remainder of the polypeptide shall be represented by a line. - The identity of the ribonucleotides in the transcript for four codons: those bound to the tRNAs, and one codon to each side of those. Other portions of the transcript shall be represented by lines. 3. Redraw your previous, detailed, diagram after enough time has passed that the following has occurred: - The RNA polymerase has moved one nucleotide along the DNA. - The ribosome has moved one codon along the transcript, but is otherwise at a similar stage of the translation process.
