CHECK OUT OUR NEW PARK!
Hopper Hollow Park
The City of Wheat Ridge’s newest park, located at 44th Avenue and Kendall Street, features
picnic tables, two playgrounds, a basketball court, an open field play area, a BBQ grill and
a sculpture entitled Truth designed by local artist Kendra Fleischman. Hopper Hollow was
developed using a local government grant from Jefferson County Open Space and Conservation
Trust Funds. Neighborhood meetings were held to gather input for the park’s design. Hopper
Hollow opened to the public in November 2014.

Letter From the Director
Dear Patron,
Welcome to the Wheat Ridge Parks and Recreation Department! We hope you enjoy the new look of
the Fall/Winter Activities Guide. Staff have been working hard to update the guide to provide you with
easy to find information on all your favorite activities. Also under construction is a redesign on the
department web site. The goal of the newly designed pages is to provide our users with easy, quick
access to the most frequently requested information, such as Recreation Center and aquatics information.
A special thanks to the marketing team, Rachel Wysuph, Kara Martin and Amanda Krug for this new
design. Improvements to the site will continue through 2016.
http://www.ci.wheatridge.co.us/ParksandRecreation
The Parks and Recreation Master Plan 2015 was adopted by City Council in April. This plan incorporates
recommendations for the future for programs and facilities and is based on the results from survey
data as well as an assessment of facilities, amenities and locations. The plan will provide guidance for
the department for the next ten to fifteen years.
By participating in recreation programs individually we improve our health and wellness and increase
our general well-being. Parks and Recreation services help families build strong bonds and promote
community spirit. Environmentally, neighborhood parks contribute to clean air and community livability.
Wheat Ridge Parks and Recreation strives to make a positive difference in the lives of our citizens
through the services provided. I encourage you to acquaint yourself with city parks and facilities and
to participate in the many leisure-time activities that are offered. There is no better place than right
in your own backyard. Whether you are a long time resident, new to the area, or just visiting, you’re
sure to find something to enrich your life.
Once again, thanks for allowing us to serve you. Spend your leisure time with us!
Joyce Manwaring

WE BELIEVE IN TEACHING CHILDREN IN WAYS
THAT SUIT THEIR DEVELOPMENTAL LEVEL.
So, you won’t see competitive skill drills in our child development
sports programs, but you will see teaching methods specifically
designed to create an atmosphere that is effective and fun. You
will also see happy, confident and sweaty kids who are eager to
learn and want to keep coming back for more. Coach Robin will
thrill your child with 45 minutes of creative, high energy and
age appropriate activities that serve as a great introduction to
the wonderful world of sports. In every program we’ll emphasize
teamwork, playing fair, taking turns and good sportsmanship.
Whether your child is just beginning or already has a love for
sports, our development programs offer a place for children at
every level. Please meet in the Anderson Building Gym for all first
classes. Classes may be held indoors or outdoors.
