Welcome to Fall/Winter 2015!
During the past year our department has served thousands of area
residents through our parks, programs, classes and events. We are
proud to be celebrating 21 years of service and I would like to thank
your on-going support of our parks and programs. During the last
couple of years we have made some great changes including an
updated City of Elko website and several millions of dollars invested in
capital improvements to our parks and facilities.
As the kids head back to school, don’t forget at Elko Parks & Recreation, the fun doesn’t stop.
I encourage all residents to take advantage of the activities and facilities our department offers.

Youth will learn basketball skills, team play, and have fun in this
developmental basketball league.This league will consist of six

The City of Elko Parks offers multiple locations throughout the City of Elko
park system. Throughout our ten parks located in the City of Elko, numerous
locations are reservable for special events, family gatherings and corporate
events. Park reservations are available through our website at www.elkocity.
com or in-person at 723 Railroad St.
Park Reservation fee: $50.00 - $150.00 (Dependent Upon Area Reserved)
Basic $50.00 reservation includes:
4 Picnic Tables, 1 Serving Table, 1 Garbage Can
Additional Tables Available at Reservation.
1. All fees must be paid when
reserving.
2. Reservations must be made no
later than 48 hours prior to the
reservation date.
3. Groups are responsible for damage
to the picnic area during their use.
4. There is NO ELECTRICITY or WATER
in picnic areas.
5. No GLASS CONTAINERS in any City
Park.
6. Refrain from excessive noise.
7. Pets must be on a leash.
8. Clean up & dispose of pet waste.
9. No camping unless authorized by
City Council.
10. No Unauthorized vehicles on
grass.

The City of Elko Parks & Recreation Department strives to provide
community programs and services where unmet interests and needs exist,
and to promote cooperation with schools, athletic and civic organizations,
community agencies and interested individuals in the areas of education,
recreation and social and cultural pursuits.
NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS
You will only be notified if the class/activity is full or canceled. You will not receive
a confirmation letter or call.
REFUNDS
Refunds are given if programs are canceled or if registration fails because the
activity is full or weather conditions force us to cancel. Refunds cannot be
guaranteed after the program has begun. Requests must be made at least five
(5) business days before a program/class is scheduled to begin. A $10 service fee
will be charged for ALL refund requests. Refunds will not be given after program
has begun.
WEATHER POLICY
Every attempt will be made to inform participants of program cancellations due to
inclement weather. When weather is a factor, parents or participants may call the
Parks and Recreation Department at 775-777-7260.
SHINING STAR SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Youth Scholarship Campaign
Brighten up a child’s life by donating to our scholarship fund! Large or small, your
sponsorship will help contribute to a child’s participation in our recreation
programs that otherwise may not be able to do so. Pick up a star at the Recreation
Office or fill out and return form below and pledge your donation today!
Some examples of what your sponsorship will provide:
$10 – Sponsor a session of Karate, Dance or Gymnastics
$25 – Sponsor a child for Swimming Lessons
$50 – Sponsor a child for a Sport Camp session
$75 – Sponsor a child for a Week of Day Camp

Elko’s, year round traveling soccer club. Cost $100.00 per child.
PAL (POLICE ATHLETIC LEAGUE)
The Police Athletic League (PAL) was founded nearly 20 years ago by Sgt. Fred Bradley,
retired. Originally PAL sponsored football, basketball and wrestling. The football and
wrestling programs have since gone private.
The PAL basketball program currently provides a positive learning environment for
children from the 3rd grade to the 8th grade while the volleyball program targets the
5th - 8th grade children.
Enrollment in PAL programs cost $30 that covers equipment and insurance costs for
PAL. PAL is a nonprofit organization. It’s programs run from September - April of each
year. PAL relies on volunteers in order to offer these programs for our children.

Pickleball is a combination of tennis, badminton, ping-pong and racquetball, in addition

CITY OF ELKO LATCHKEY PROGRAM (ELKO EXPLORERS)
The City of Elko Recreation Department provides a before and after school Latchkey
program and a full day summer program for k-6th grades in the Elko Community. The
before school program is held from 6:00am - 8:30am and the after school program is
held from 3:00pm - 6:00pm, Monday thru Friday (open early out times). We provide
this program to all Elko schools with transportation to and from other schools. This
program includes snacks and juice, arts and crafts, homework assistance, tutoring, drug
awareness curriculum, and organized activities. During the year we periodically have
special presentations by various professions such as the Elko Police Department to
promoteawarenessprogramssuchas“StrangerDanger”,“K-9”unit,anddrugandalcohol
abuse dangers; The Elko Fire Department instructs on home fire safety and needs; and

JR. SKI PROGRAM
REGISTRATION BEGINS MONDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 2015!
Our program consists of five 1/2 day clinics for the 6-16 age group. Offered on Saturdays,
each clinic consists of a beginning class (never, ever, ever skied) and a novice class (has
skied/taken lessons before). Sessions are directed by certified instructors and coaches.
The SnoBowl Elko Kids Ski Program specializes in making learning to ski a fun and safe
experience.Ourexperiencedinstructorswillhelpyourchildrendeveloptheskillsrequired
to enjoy a lifetime of winter fun on the slopes. From the time they arrive at the SnoBowl,
your children will enjoy supervised activities emphasizing learning in a fun environment.
Included is an all mountain lift ticket, skis, boots and lessons. Slush Puppies - Never-Ever-
Ever... You have never put on skies before. Sno Hounds - Novice...Having previous skiing
experience, able to control and turn skis in a wedge position and are able to stop.
Who: Ages 6 -16
Fee: $125 per child, 2nd child in the same family $105 and 3rd + child
in the same family is $85 per child

boarded or taken lessons before). Sessions are directed by certified instructors and
coaches. The SnoBowl ElkoKids Snow Boarding Program specializes in making learning

be able to ride anywhere. Freestyle, Free ride and Carving are all included and it doesn’t
matter which binding or board you use. The main thing is to have a great time! Students
must furnish their own equipment and transportation. Board Puppies - Never-Ever-Ever...
You have never been on a board before. Board Hounds - Novice...Having previous board
experience, able to control and turn and are able to stop.

KIDS PLAY KAMP!!
We have JOINED FORCES!! Come join the City of Elko Recreation and Boys & Girls Club
of Elko in our fun, creative and active PLAY KAMP! Youth ages 3-5 will join other youth
as we get active and creative in a two hour session offered twice a week. You must pre-
purchase a punch card for this camp.
Active Play Mondays!!
Participants will be interacting in PLAY activities, climbing up large inflatable fun bouncy
houses,participatinginactivegamesandsportsallprovidedbyouramazingBoys&Girls
Club Staff. PLAY, active team building as social interaction will be emphasized!
Wednesday’s CreativeThinkers
Youth will zooooom into their creative senses and run wild in our creative, educational
and FUN environment with The City of Elko Recreation Staff. Arts, crafts, educational
programs with special guest will be explored! Creativity, active and educational FUN will
be emphasized!

FALL BOOK FAIR FUNDRAISER
The Elko County Library will be hosting
its annual Scholastic Fall Book Fair. There
is always a great selection of books for
all ages and interests, and books make
great holiday gifts for friends and family.
All proceeds go to the Library to support
special youth programs and events.

HALLOWEEN CARNIVAL
The Library is hosting its annual Halloween
Carnival. Participants will dress up in their
Halloween costumes and come to the
Library to play spooky games and win fun
prizes. Each child will receive a“Trick-
or-Treat”bag. This event is free and no
registration is necessary.

17TH ANNUAL FAMILY
GINGERBREAD HOUSE CONTEST
The Elko County Library encourages
families to spend time together during the
busy holiday season by creating a family
gingerbread house constructed from any
material. Families will choose one of three
categories to enter: Large, Small, and
StorybookTheme.
Dates: Drop Off between 9 am, Mon, Nov
30 and 5 pm, Sat, Dec 12.Winners will be

The City of Elko Recreation Department and Nevada East Roller Girls would like to present
Family Skate Night. Come down to the Igloo Rec. Center the third Friday of the Month, from

means of preventing teen pregnancy and STDs. Students learn about
adolescent development, pregnancy prevention and sexually transmitted
diseases.They also learn refusal skills, identifying/handling peer pressure,
and how to utilize negotiation skills.

Park reservations are available through our website at www.elkocity. com or in-person at 723 Railroad St. Park Reservation fee: $50.00 - $150.00 (Dependent Upon Area Reserved) Basic $50.00 reservation includes: 4 Picnic Tables, 1 Serving Table, 1 Garbage Can Additional Tables Available at Reservation. 1. All fees must be paid when reserving. 2. Reservations must be made no later than 48 hours prior to the reservation date. 3. Groups are responsible for damage to the picnic area during their use. 4. PAL (POLICE ATHLETIC LEAGUE) The Police Athletic League (PAL) was founded nearly 20 years ago by Sgt. Fred Bradley, retired. Originally PAL sponsored football, basketball and wrestling. The football and wrestling programs have since gone private. The PAL basketball program currently provides a positive learning environment for children from the 3rd grade to the 8th grade while the volleyball program targets the 5th - 8th grade children. Enrollment in PAL programs cost $30 that covers equipment and insurance costs for PAL. PAL is a nonprofit organization. It’s programs run from September - April of each year. Participants will dress up in their Halloween costumes and come to the Library to play spooky games and win fun prizes. Each child will receive a“Trick- or-Treat”bag. This event is free and no registration is necessary.
