5. Describe the Topic
- In groups write 6-10 words describing drug
use.
- I will ask the class to tell me the words and I
will make a list and write the words on the
whiteboard.
6. Step 2: Create Direct Analogies
- Describe a famous athlete or public figure
who reminds you of the words written on the
board.
- Give the rationale for why that individual
was chosen.
7. Step 3: Describe Personal Analogies
- Ask students to view reality from the
perspective of the athlete or public figure.
- Encourage students to explain why they had
that particular feeling.
8. Step 4: Identify Compressed Conflicts
- Ask students to view the list of words and
pair together words that seem to be in
conflict with each other or fight each other.
- Write down on board the pairs that each
group came up with.
9. Step 5: Create a New Direct Analogy
- Using the conflict chosen by each group ask
students to create another direct analogy
(animal).
- Write down the animal each group comes up
with on the board.
10. Step 6: Reexamine the Original Topic
- Compare the original topic of drug use to the
new analogy.
- How does the new analogy relate to the
original topic?
- What new ideas comes to mind about
comparing drug use and the new analogy?
