What is it? Why is it
important?
IXL is a web tool that assists students in
gaining more practice on the different skills
that they are learning. This website
incorporates videos, games and step by
step tutorials to allow students to gain
more understanding of a concept that
students may struggle with. This is
important because in order for students to
have that knowledge and information
transferred to their long term memory
students need to continue to access that
information and using it. This is so
necessary because students may not learn
what is initially being taught. Math is not
the easiest concept for students to grasp
so this website allows for students to be
responsible for their learning and to go at a
pace that they are comfortable with.
3. What does it address? This web tool can be used to address
empowered learning. This is shown in the
way students can go find the information
they need and perceive it in the way that
best suits their learning. This also
addresses students being conceptual
thinkers because they are using what they
are learning to practice and solve problems
on their own.
4. How have we seen
IXL Math shine?
Based on the article provided by PR Newswire the IXL
math is a great assistant to students who need extra
practice. The platform was shown to have won the
CODiE award for the 3rd consecutive year by helping
students in high school practice their math skills.
Also on the CODiE award website shows that IXL
math was rewarded at the elementary aged level for
providing students with a platform in which they can
understand and grasp math concepts in a more
unique way.
5. Adaptive Learning As stated previously this web tool allows students to
watch, videos play games and even receive step by
step instruction on what and how to solve problems
that they are required to understand. IXL also adapts
the problems’ difficulty level to how many questions
the students are getting correct. If the child gets so
many problems correct the problems tend to become
more critical and tests their depth of understanding
the skill they are practicing. The website gives videos
and also provides examples for whatever standard
they are practicing.
