3. What is the process of implantation?
• When the egg was released, there were already sperm waiting
in your fallopian tubes, and one of them managed to fertilize it.
The fertilized egg begins rapidly dividing as it travels down the
fallopian tubes toward the uterus.
4. CONTRACEPTION METHODS THAT HINDER IMPLANTATION
Oral contraceptives (birth control pills)
-Birth control pills work by preventing ovulation. No egg is
produced, so there is nothing for the sperm to fertilize.
Pregnancy cannot occur.
5. Emergency Contraception Pill
- method of preventing pregnancy to be used after a contraceptive fails or
after unprotected sex
-Plan B is emergency contraception, a backup method to birth control.
-Works to prevent the release of an ovum, slow the movement of the
ovum, or prevent implantation (Hatcher et al, 1998)
How Does Plan B Work?
Plan B works like other birth control pills to prevent pregnancy. Plan B acts
primarily by stopping the release of an egg from the ovary (ovulation). It
may
prevent the union of sperm and egg (fertilization). If fertilization does occur,
Plan B may prevent a fertilized egg from attaching to the womb
(implantation).
If a fertilized egg is implanted prior to taking Plan B, Plan B will not work.
6. INTRAUTERINE DEVICE ( IUD)
Basically: a device inside your uterus). It's a small piece of flexible plastic shaped like a T.
Sometimes it’s called an IUC — intrauterine contraception. A plastic that gets put in your
uterus to mess with the way sperm can move and prevent them from fertilizing an egg.
Both copper IUDs and hormonal IUDs prevent pregnancy by changing the way sperm cells
move so they can't get to an egg. If sperm can’t make it to an egg, pregnancy can’t
happen.
7. CONTRACEPTIVE PATCH
• The birth control patch prevents pregnancy by stopping
sperm from meeting an egg (which is called fertilization).
(just put on a patch once a week)
• The patch stops your ovaries from releasing eggs (called
ovulation). No ovulation means there’s no egg hanging
around for sperm to fertilize, so pregnancy can’t happen.
8. HORMONAL VAGINAL CONTRACEPTIVE RING
• The vaginal ring (NuvaRing) is a small soft, plastic ring that you place
inside your vagina.
• It releases a continuous dose of the hormones estrogen and
progestogen into the bloodstream to prevent pregnancy. 21 days
worn, take it out when you have period) Thickens the mucus in
cervix.
