Dear Parents:
The District Eleven Gifted and Talented program will again sponsor the Paul Grogger Science Challenge. The
Science Challenge is a nationally acclaimed field science experience that offers students a one day a week
hands on approach to the study of environmental science. The workshop runs six weeks and takes students to
places like Garden of the Gods, Queen’s Canyon, Cheyenne Mountain, and Picketwire Canyon. The program
is directed and taught by Dr. Paul Grogger, a practicing scientist and University of Colorado geology professor.
Each six-week session explores new locations and concepts. Our next six-week session is for 7th and 8th
grade students and will begin Thursday, January 19h and continue through February 23rd. Students will miss a
full day of regular class each Thursday while enrolled in the program. It will be your responsibility to get your
student to Mann Middle School at 8:00 a.m. and to pick your student up at Mann Middle School at 2:00 p.m.
(The Picketwire Trip will start at 7:30 and end at 6:00)
A $90.00 participation fee will be collected to help support the cost of providing this program. The fee will be
collected at orientation meeting prior to the first session.
